Oh no I think I just figured it out
I genuinely wonder what’s behind Tennessee’s injury luck during the Heupel era.
UT had the most total injuries in the FBS in 2021. We lost Hooker and several major contributors in 2022. In 2023, at least 7 key players suffered season-ending injuries. Pili then had back-to-back season-ending injuries, Jermod McCoy missed 2025, and now just 4 games into 2026 we already have 6-7 guys lost for the year.
Obviously football is a violent sport and every program deals with injuries. Maybe Tennessee has simply had an unbelievable run of bad luck.
But after six years of this, I do wonder if there’s anything else to it — workload, recovery, S&C, medical evaluation, style of play, or something else entirely?
Not pointing fingers because I have no idea. It just seems like an awful lot of significant injuries over a relatively short period of time.
