We are saddened by the loss of G&D's long-time Editor, Terri Grodzicker. When Terri stepped down as Editor in 2022, friends and colleagues wrote about her contributions to the research community. We are re-visiting these pieces, and thinking of her. ➡️ genesdev.cshlp.org/content/3…

We're thrilled to announce PCGI Postdoc, Arindam Datta (Greenberg Lab), has published work showing that the BRCA1-A complex blocks replication fork reversal to restrict DNA end resection, defining the molecular basis of chemotherapy response in ATM-mutated cancers:

BRCA1-A enforces a restrictive chromatin state to suppress fork reversal in ATM deficient cells. This prevents genesis of resection substrates, implicating fork reversal as a key determinant of chemo-response in ATM deficient cells. Great collaboration with @vindigniLab

Excited to share our review of molecular regulation/dysregulation of the cGAS/STING pathway. Kudos to co-authors Min-Guk Cho, Rachel Lee, and Jayce Johnson for leading this effort! @UNC_Lineberger @UNC_BCBP
Molecular mechanisms regulating cGAS-STING activation in health and disease: doi.org/10.1172/JCI204548 As part of the JCI’s Review Series on The cGAS-STING pathway: DNA sensing in health and disease, Min-Guk Cho et al. @UNC discuss how disruption or co-option of the processes governing cGAS/STING activation and regulation drive diverse diseases and highlight therapeutic strategies to restore immune balance. #cGASSTING

Really exciting work from the #Binder/@DrORourke2 group @PennNSG + collaborators highlights how intracerebroventricular CAR-T doesn’t exert anti-tumor effects in isolation but is heavily influenced by the balance of specific cell populations in the CSF.

Like many scientists of my generation, I entered the cell death field inspired by the work that came from Genentech, especially from @dixitvishva , Kim Newton, and their colleagues. Their discoveries did more than define apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis and inflammatory signalling. They showed us what rigorous, elegant, and transformative science looks like. They also demonstrated that deep, curiosity-driven basic research could thrive within biotechnology and change medicine. Watching these departures is therefore not just news. For many of us, it feels personal. Yet the cell death field has taught us an important lesson: death is rarely the end of the story. In biology, death creates opportunities for renewal, adaptation, and transformation. The scientific legacy built by these extraordinary scientists cannot be erased by a reorganisation chart. Their discoveries have shaped an entire field and inspired generations of researchers who will carry those ideas forward. This is not the end. #GenerationDixit linkedin.com/posts/gianmaria…
