37-year-old FDNY firefighter Daniel Suhr was the first firefighter killed on 9/11. He didn’t die in the collapse. He didn’t die inside the towers. Around 9:30 a.m., as Engine 216 moved toward the South Tower to save people, a civilian falling from the building struck him and killed him instantly. His brothers refused to leave him. They carried him out. Because they stayed with Danny, they were not inside when the South Tower came down minutes later. He ran toward the fire. That’s who he was. Honor Daniel Suhr. Honor every first responder who ran in.
