Brilliant column from David Bailey. My mind goes back to 2020 and the depths of fear about Covid-19. It was found that the UK didn't have anything like the number of ventilators that was believed to be needed. The @HVM_Catapult, under the leadership of Richard Elsy, brought together disparate elements of the auto, aero, defence and electronics supply chains, who built - & redesigned, let us not forget - 13,000 ventilators in just 15 weeks. So what Prof Bailey suggests isn't pipedreaming; it has been done before, in several different ways.
Britain’s automotive supply chain doesn’t need to die. It needs a new mission. My new blog today on auto, defence, dual use, building resilience & the critical role for place based industrial strategy. Will the govt listen? blogsfromtheblackstuff.com/b… @SMMT @MakeUK_ @gtma1
