Been in television production for 22 years. I’ve watched it happen on set over and over.
Someone calls in sick or just doesn’t show. A new person covers. They do the job, the producers get comfortable, and the original person never really gets the work back.
Same thing is happening with news organizations. They still think they have a say. Then they start censoring themselves. They decide certain stories or certain questions are off-limits.
That’s them calling in sick.
When you leave the chair empty, somebody else sits down. And they usually keep it.
