Today I have written to the head of the UK Football Policing Unit after its disgraceful attempt to link alcohol with the Hillsborough disaster following the Prime Minister’s call to ease restrictions at football matches.
Alcohol did not cause Hillsborough. The behaviour of supporters did not cause or contribute to the disaster.
These are the authoritative, factual conclusions of the inquests and the independent investigations. They are not matters of opinion.
Thirty-seven years on, when will policing authorities finally accept the truth and stop perpetuating the lies and smears created in the aftermath of the disaster?
Enough is enough.

This is low, even by the standards of the UK Football policing unit, casually linking the Taylor report post Hillsborough and football tragedies to changes in the law on drinking at matches
Drinking in view of the pitch didn’t cause deaths or injuries - policing failures did
Agreed. I see this as a two-part process:
1. Remove the discriminatory ban (another relic of the Thatcher era).
2. Let clubs and their fans decide where/when alcohol can be drunk in their ground/stands.
Prime Minister, the actual PM, not a fan rep: “Let’s look at the legislation (which criminalises fans) with a view to making football equal to other events/sports”.
Fans en masse "Ooo, no thanks, somebody might throw beer on me”.
Wow. Never seen a point so spectacularly missed
With @FulhamFC being the only club in the @premierleague not yet to offer safe standing in any part of its ground, this seems like an important survey for FFC fans to take part in.
The Trust’s annual survey is now out.
Let us know what you think about:
🎟️ Ticket prices
🏟️ Behaviour at stadiums
🎶 Safe standing
🚻 Stadium facilities
🤝 Your relationship with the Club
Forward the survey on to other fans, too. surveymonkey.com/r/CQYD2WV

Diversity and depth of support are what make football in this country special and however much you supported or mistrusted the Holmesdale Fanatics, their presence was distinctive.
Without them English football is more sterile, less colourful and quieter. That should alarm fans of every club.
Just how bad is the state of modern football when such a prominent group down tools, given Crystal Palace are stronger than ever? @thomgibbs has more ⤵️

Standing capacity at Borussia Monchengladbach's 56k stadium (opened in 2004) goes up today by nearly 2k. Seating for 900 now converted to standing for 1,800. In Borussia's case as terracing, but also possible, of course, using compact rail seats.
Very sorry to see the HF call it a day. Several of their guys helped me out on a number of occasions with setting up the Safe Standing Roadshow, including at Westminster. So they too played a part in getting standing formally allowed again. Thanks guys!

Reading fan Jon Keen recalls here the 25-year campaign to have fans at the club's home ground once again allowed to stand to watch the game.
I was there with my roadshow in 2014 and back again this week to see the new safe standing area, which I hope all fans there will enjoy.
"For me, as a Reading supporter, the big thing, the unimaginable holy grail, was safe-standing coming to Reading."
For @urzz1871, the arrival of safe-standing at #ReadingFC is a long-awaited and hugely welcome achievement.

The DFB has decided to reintroduce standing areas at national team games for the first time in 25 years.
Ticket prices will begin at 18 Euro.
Hopefully an example to others.
Never thought I'd see the day when I agreed with every word of a statement from UEFA.
But this is a great statement. Well done, UEFA.
Now stick to your guns!
