DCI in Garissa have arrested 26-year-old Muhiyadin Abdi Sheikh, the main suspect in the fatal robbery and murder of US national Osman Aweys Abdi in Garissa. On May 28, 2026, Osman was attacked near Abubeida School in Bulla Mzuri, about 5km north of Iftin Police Station. He was stabbed in the left thigh and struck on the left side of the head with a blunt object. His phone was stolen. The suspect went into hiding. After months of pursuit, intelligence-led efforts traced him to a hideout in Kabete, Nairobi, where he was arrested. Muhiyadin is being held at Kasarani Police Station pending transfer to Garissa, where he is expected to face murder charges. He can as well settle the matter outside court by paying 50 carmels,10 goats and 5 lactating cows.
