Following the 9/11 attacks I left the Mission Mountains of Montana and went into Leesburg Virginia recruiters offices. On this day 24 years ago I officially joined the US Army. Thanks for your service then and all you do now for Vets. This was about a week or so after 9/11. We were doing 12 hour shifts at Ground Zero. We finally got respirators on day 7 down there. But the EPA said don’t worry, the air is fine.

I lived and worked in Washington DC at the time. So after leaving Missoula on a flight (took a few days) I went into the local recruiters office in Loudoun County.
