The threat of a Nor’easter could not stop crabs, clams and company on the Eastern Shore! It was great to be back in Crisfield for the 49th J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake – a true celebration of Maryland’s bay heritage, watermen, and seafood. Even with the crazy wind, I appreciated the chance to talk with locals about the threats of flooding and the work we’re doing in Congress to ensure our Bay communities can continue to live, work, and play on the Chesapeake for generations to come. Thank you to Crisfield Mayor Darlene Taylor and the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce for hosting this can’t miss, Maryland tradition!

I was back on Capitol Hill this week to celebrate my mentor and friend, Senator Barbara Mikulski’s, 90th birthday with an ice cream social. I’m blessed to have had Senator Barb on speed dial this Congress - and I’m often reminded of one of her sayings: “We cannot always guarantee an outcome, but we can guarantee an effort.” Those words have carried me through some of the tougher days in Washington and in the District. They’ve carried me through the countless phone calls with constituents desperate for someone to listen, care, and act. They’ve carried me through close votes and devastating cuts to the federal workforce and programs we all depend on. And they’ll continue to carry me through until the American people can have their voices heard again on November 3rd. Today, we are less than six weeks from Election Day, and I’m humbly asking for your full effort. Taking back the House majority won’t happen by accident. It’s always an honor to have the support of the Anne Arundel County Professional Fire Fighters. Since my time in the Maryland Senate, I’ve worked alongside IAFF Local 1563 to craft legislation strengthening health and safety protections for our brave firefighters in the line of duty. From co-sponsoring the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act to fighting on the House floor for full firefighter staffing on military installations, I’m carrying that same grit and dedication to Congress.

For the first time in over 50 years, every seat in the Maryland General Assembly has a Democratic candidate on the ballot. There’s a saying in politics: we govern how we campaign.  Here in Maryland, that means working together to talk to every neighbor and earnestly listen to the needs of our community.
