Ultimately, it is somewhat ironic that, of all people, those who have done little to maintain their health end up living longer ‘by chance’ because they are receiving metabolism-rejuvenating drugs that are potentially of great interest in terms of #longevity
Late-life semaglutide treatment extended lifespan and improved physical and cognitive function in female mice.

PRP isn’t the breakthrough. Standardization might be. A 2026 expert consensus agreed on 60/62 orthobiologic statements, including PRP for Achilles, tennis elbow and rotator cuff tendinopathy yet dosing, preparation and quality control remain unresolved [1]. 🧬 That matters: a 2024 Achilles meta-analysis found no clear functional benefit from PRP versus controls [2], while a 2025 review says PRP, BMAC and patch augmentation are expanding despite mixed evidence [3]. The priority: better patient selection, reproducible products and indication-specific protocols. ⚕️ 🤔 Where should we draw the line between responsible innovation and premature adoption? The effect of vitamin D3 supplementation on fracture incidence in an aging population — The Finnish vitamin D trial "The 5-year vitamin D3 supplementation of 1600 IU/day or 3200 IU/day did not reduce the risk of fractures among a largely vitamin D-sufficient aging population. The findings do not support use of high vitamin D doses for fracture prevention in such populations." sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Combining treatments may help provide faster pain relief and better function for patients with knee osteoarthritis, supporting earlier rehabilitation. #healthcare #health
Patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who used a topical flurbiprofen patch alongside oral celecoxib reported faster pain relief and better short-term function than those who used celecoxib alone. "The findings support the combination regimen as a short-term 'bridging' strategy to reduce early activity limitation and potentially facilitate timely initiation of non-pharmacological rehabilitation in symptomatic KOA [knee OA]," the authors of the study wrote. mdsc.pe/4yyHHG7

Amid all the technology, it's still about the stories. It always will be. Grateful for Lance, P.A. Jennifer, and @BaptistHealthJx for sharing. #WeArePalmGarden
Do you believe in fate? 💙 After his wife of 37 years passed away from dementia in 2025, Lance Schellpeper stopped believing in much of anything. He stopped taking care of himself, gained weight and stopped attending church. “I was mad at the world and mad at God. Losing my wife Linda was like losing all hope,” the Jacksonville Beach resident said. His doctor warned him his heart was in trouble, but Lance didn’t listen and remained content to fish at his favorite spot on the Jacksonville pier. It was there, reaching down to pet a stranger’s dog, that Lance collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest. This is where fate intervened. The dog's owner was Jennifer Card, PA-C, a cardiac physician’s assistant with Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates, PA, who treats patients at Baptist Health hospitals. Jennifer immediately recognized what was happening, called 911 and went to work. “I was pushing hard and fast on his chest for like five minutes. It was go-time,” she said. “I didn’t even stop to check his pulse.” When paramedics arrived on the scene, they shocked Schellpeper’s heart back into its normal rhythm using an automated external defibrillator (AED) and transported him to the Emergency Room at Baptist Medical Center Beaches, where he was stabilized. Later that day, he underwent a heart catheterization at #BaptistJax that revealed four clogged arteries. The next day, John “Jack” Pirris, MD, FACS (also with Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates, PA), performed a successful quadruple bypass. Fate and modern medicine had intervened to save Lance’s life. 🩺 “Jenny being right there when I fell and knowing exactly what to do when my heart stopped is what saved me,” he said. “She must have used a sledgehammer on my chest because it was still sore when she came to visit me in the hospital.” Since his cardiac arrest, Lance has made major life changes and lost 40 lbs. He’s also gained a new friend and a healthier outlook on life. 💙 “Jenny is the reason I’m still here and I want her to get all the credit she deserves,” he said. “My whole problem was my lifestyle, but that’s all going to change. It’s what my wife would have wanted.” Read more about Lance’s incredible story here: go.baptistjax.com/4rGszns 💙

Bidirectional reallocations of sitting time, physical activity, and sleep in relation to risk of all-cause mortality (ACM) & cardiovascular disease (CVD) Highlights: ▶️ A J-shaped association between daily sitting time & risks of ACM & CVD was found in the PURE-China cohort, w/increased risks at both low & high sitting levels. ▶️ Reallocating 30 min of sitting to physical activity in individuals sitting ≥4 h/day linked to 3–4% lower composite outcome risk and 6%–7% lower ACM. ▶️ A “sitting paradox” was observed in those w/low sedentary time (<4 h/day): reallocating 30 min of physical activity or prolonged sleep to sitting was linked to a 4%–6% lower risk of the composite outcome and a 4%–10% lower risk of ACM. sciencedirect.com/science/ar… @DrRPalmquist @DHPSP @Dani21422k

🌻 Are you still snubbing the snack that outperforms half the superfoods? — Tiny but MIGHTY: sunflower seeds. As a doctor, I hunt for simple, evidence-backed foods that move the needle. These do. Just a small handful gives you: • Powerful Vitamin E – antioxidant superstar for glowing skin + immune support • Magnesium – for better sleep, muscle recovery & blood pressure • Healthy fats + selenium – heart health & inflammation control • Plant protein & fiber – keeps you full & energized They’re cheap, tasty, and portable. I toss them on salads, yogurt, or eat them straight as a snack. Pro tip: Go for unsalted/raw if you’re on a lower sodium diet. Who else is adding sunflower seeds to their routine? 🌻 #SunflowerSeeds Source: Jiang R, Jacobs DR, Mayer-Davis E, et al. These findings add to the evidence linking ultra-processed food intake with cardiovascular risk, while highlighting potential roles for central adiposity and systemic inflammation. They reinforce the value of dietary patterns that support healthy weight and cardiovascular health.
Central adiposity and systemic inflammation partially mediate the association between ultra-processed food consumption and #CVD risk, according to a study published in #JACCAdvances. Get full details ➡️ bit.ly/3UaG1DT #CardioX

Getting vaccinated before flu activity peaks can help provide protection when it’s needed most, so there’s no reason to wait until Halloween if vaccination is available now. #healthcareIT #eHealth #healthcare #digitalhealth
Doctors often use the phrase “flu before boo” to remind people to get their flu vaccine before Halloween. But this flu season, you might not want to wait until Oct. 31 to get vaccinated. “We're seeing an early flu wave this year.” time.com/article/2026/10/05/…
