This is what makes me want to keep teaching. I have the budget to keep up, the bloody knuckles to make it happen, and friends in industry to show me how. My goal is simple: teach what industry needs me to teach.
The school system is "often years or even decades behind what industry and hobbyists are actually doing..."

Starting today, I'm going to give the world a first hand view of what it is like to own, operate and grow a small manufacturing business. Beginning with this picture. This is a picture of my not-so-glamorous shop in northern Illinois. It's also the reality of thousands of other small machine shops across the country. Mostly older machines (newest 2019), less organized and dirtier than I aim for. I've worked here since I was 13, ran it since I was 24 and owned it since I was 26. I’m 32 now. I’ve been considered an old soul and have always kept it real, but what I am about to do scares me. See, my Opa started this company in 1977 and he always wanted to break $1M in revenue. To celebrate him and the 50th anniversary of Center Tool Company I’m going to do it. I will double our revenue AND do it publicly. We are on target for $500k in ’26 (pretty much been 500-800k since 1977, very unspectacular) In ’27 we will break a MIL. In the grand scheme of things that's pretty small, but it could be entertaining to ride along on the journey. I’m going to show basically every aspect of what I know and how I do things. I will post about stuff and include actual screen shots, pictures, statements, and documents. Maybe some videos of day in the life or the joys of defense contracting... I’ll break down the inner workings of not just turning raw metal into finished tooling or parts, but also working with customers, banks, lawyers, the government, family/business and family-business dynamics, personal/business finances, and raising a young family through this. What do you want to know and/or what I am doing wrong? Comment or DM America sits at the precipice of reindustrialization. We have a monumental opportunity in front of us. It’s time to burn the ships and go all in. Bringing manufacturing back to our country could return a healthy middle class and economic boom across small town America - where I live.

Proof that the young want to build. @AntNeri10
Back when i made more of a decorative piece. We wanted too show off our idea of a concept car to hopefully build. Overall a nice project but brushing the sheet metal with scotch bright for a nice finish is definitely time consuming.

What if I told you I could direct them to a vocation that would solve their problem.

What are we doing with all of these kids who are telling us they want to build?

Building and mentoring youth that have the grind in them is how we win. It starts with opportunities, it ends with worker that’s willing to do the same in return.
My son (student at engine machining school) is looking to get some experience in CNC. He’s in Houston (Spring Branch area). Anyone know of a local shop that might let him intern?

America is awake. Builders have the opportunity to create again. Companies like Hadrian are proving what’s possible by investing in factories and people. If you want to do the hardest work of your life and create jobs, Build Atoms. I’m ready to build that workforce.
Hadrian is announcing our $1.37B Series D - watch below for a comprehensive update on our plans to reinvest billions to meet generational demand for Factories-as-a-service & Opus, our physical AI platform for factory autonomy — as well as full stack munitions production, advanced foundries, international expansion, drone dominance, the Organic Industrial Base, and most importantly, increase Equity stakes for our workforce in LA, Alabama and Arizona. Thank you to our team and investors for enabling us to accelerate our mission to reshore, rescale and upgrade the Defense Industrial Base. The Factory is the Product.

Some kids just don’t want to start manufacturing on a computer. So I start them with a ruler, sheet metal and hand tools. Little by little templates come from a laser. Shapes are cut on a waterjet. Forming means 3D printing a die. Then they say…We built that.

One of my former students. @pabloruiz2324 Pablo the intern! Now studying mechanical engineering and spending his internship doing DFM and machining parts @AMRwelding You should check out what he has been up to!

Best part is that he is always teaching about manufacturing. There is 4 years between the pictures of Pablo and my daughter at the controls.

This really made me think. I’ve always tried to mimic industry in my high school shop. If industry is becoming AI-native, what AI platforms should we be exposing students to today? ChatGPT? Claude? Cursor? Something else? Need to teach the teacher…

As teacher that encourages my students not to design the wheel on first attempt I encourage them to build the wheel, Learn from that experience Build a foundation of based on experiences not theory There are many Tomas’s in the world Build more builders Stop gate keeping
My OG post now has a completely false community note that claims I did not design this plane, so I would like to clear some things up. This plane is my design. The body shape is similar (not identical) because that’s what’s optimal for these design constraints. Rockets are all tall and pointy. I’m sure Niels is an incredible engineer, and his plane is amazing. But this is my plane, designed by me from scratch (you can see a full 5-month building in public series on my LinkedIn, posted in realtime) and I’ve been building RC planes continuously since I was 10 (x.com/tomas_salvo22/status/2…). Took a closer look at Niels' video now, and here’s just a couple of the most obvious engineering differences I can reveal: > Niels’ plane design is literally not available online. There were no build plans to copy from, but from photos it looks like he used foam+fiberglass overwrap. My plane is fully custom carbon fiber (internal structure CNC cut + skin, which I designed molds for and laid up myself). > My fusion file has 1480 operations. I pulled dozens of all nighters (in my dorm!) to make it fully myself, from scratch. > Fully custom inlet design with a bled boundary layer (not pictured in the OG post CAD, I iterated on it later. Pictured here) > Fully custom DMLS 3D printed titanium nozzle (looks like Niels uses a stock nozzle? either way looks nothing like mine, feel free to look at photos of my nozzle + dev process on my LinkedIn) > FPV (mine) vs line of sight (Niels) > Launch method: I use a completely different custom 30ft aluminum extrusion catapult There’s several more innovations that I can’t reveal right now to protect IP. The design is mine, and I’ve had no problem proving that to any VC who has asked. You don’t have to take my word for it: more to come, stay tuned.

This is real problem, happens way too much with opportunities in manufacturing. Fighting a culture that does not see manufacturing or building physical things as a viable path. The dinner table conversation about manufacturing has to change. All the credit to @GuseMrsco for creating the opportunity. We need many more like them.
We recently hired a very bright High school student in the past year who just graduated. Told him we had a path for him to make 100k a year. He turned it down to go work at asphalt sealing company for alot less.

This is exactly what happens when you give a hard working driven kid the right resources and access to building cool shit. There are many more like him sitting in schools and dorms ready to break records. Give kids the right tools. BOOM Amazing work!
Since February, I've designed and built the world's fastest RC airplane in my college dorm, and that’s not clickbait. Reaper has a 5kg carbon-fiber frame, 250N turbojet, and flies at 500mph. New to X and will be going through the whole build here in the coming days. #aerospace

an uncomfortable truth of reindustrialization: no matter how much money flows in, none of it matters unless an average 18 year old weighing college can see the trades as a viable path
