In 2019 I had one fruit tree. A fig tree. I had zero idea what I was going to do with all of the fruit it was producing. I wondered if I could figure out how to make jam. I found a recipe and sure enough…not only could I make it, it was delish! Then I wondered if I could figure out how to can it so I didn’t have to fill up my fridge with all the jars I was making. That’s what started my canning/preserving journey. Now I have 19 more fruit trees as well as berries and grapes and veggies etc. I have learned to can meat and shelf stable meals in jars. šŸ«™ I started dehydrating and milling my own wheat berries and creating sourdough and ginger bugs and fermented everything. I blame the fig. This is the jar that started everything šŸ˜‚

I swore I wouldn’t buy anymore fabric but then I decided to make a cover for my typewriter and found this charm pack on sale. I’ll be sewing tomorrow!

Some of these pomegranates are huge and a few are tiny šŸ˜‚. They are getting ready! I’m super excited for them to be ripe but I think it’s still too soon. Last year I harvested in the middle of November….

New pet peeve unlocked: Not knowing the difference between "whenever" and "when" and just repeatedly misusing them. I am about to start throwing dictionaries at people.

We are making pizza today so I brought out my thrift store find to grate some cheese. Not exactly certain this was designed for cheese grating but it got the job done.

I had forgotten about the mango seeds I was sprouting until just now! Looks like they can go in some dirt today!

Fern is done!!! Turns out that hand sewing was the answer and took me all of five minutes šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ™„ I learned so much from this one! From the material to the webbing ….what my machine is capable of and how to improvise etc. Such a great learning experience! Thank you to everyone who gave me advice. I’ll take all the knowledge I can get. It’s a really good thing I bought the back up sewing machine as well because that thread breakage….wasn’t the material or the thread. There’s something on my machine that’s breaking thread within five stitches. I need to spend time looking at that BUT in the meantime I can use my newest old machine and get to work on a couple bible covers! Fern and Shirley - my two lesson bags 🤣

Son: Mom this muffins look really good! Me: You can have one… Son: I already had three… Good thing I made a double batch. Blackberry and blueberry muffins! Continuing my mission to use up the homegrown fruit I’ve got stacked in my chest freezers.

We are out of granola already! And we need to restock muffins and cookies so today I’ll be in the kitchen making all the things. Then I’ll get back to Fern and trying to rehab her.

Oh man….this story is everything.
I will never forget this story about a foster child who was ultimately adopted by a godly couple. It's one of the best real-life illustrations of justification and sanctification that I've ever witnessed.

I do NOT think I’m going to be able to finish this purse…that I have been affectionately referring to (in my head) as Fern. I had grand ideas of taking Fern on all of my thrifting adventures because…that’s where she originated. I am unable to sew through all the layers I need to in order to install a strap 😩. It’s just too much material. Unless someone with more experience and knowledge can see a way to salvage this mess, I may have to end this partnership right here. I’ve had to seam rip these ends until they look like mush. Maybe Fern just wasn’t meant to be.

This is what I’m using to make my Sunday morning coffee! A vintage percolator I bought for $12. It not only makes perfect coffee but it’s so stylish. This is going to be the perfect holiday piece. As a reseller I got a little excited at how much they are worth but this one is staying put. It needs a smaller cup to go under the spout but I have one of my grannies old cups that fits perfectly. Happy Sunday!

FINALLY! I had quite the struggle with the zipper. Seam rippers were involved. It still need straps but I’m waiting for the webbing to arrive so that the strap will have some sturdy innards. I like this one even more than the first!!
Bwahahahahaha….the little card wallet was a terrible idea!!!!

Bwahahahahaha….the little card wallet was a terrible idea!!!!
Ok I cut out all my pattern pieces and even had enough left over to try this little card wallet to go with it. The fabric doesn’t just ā€œfrayā€ it’s like it sheds all over šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£. (Thank goodness for lint rollers) I knew that would happen so I cut fusible fleece as my interfacing and ironed it on (from the back of the fleece so I didn’t melt my fabric) and that should keep it from unraveling too much while I sew. I also am going to reuse the original zipper so I need to get out the seam ripper and get to it. I opened up that flat sheet and it SMELLED vintage so it’s in a quick wash before I cut into it. šŸ˜‚. This project may be a little too ambitious for me as a new sewist but I learn best by doing so either this will turn out super cute or it will be a huge lesson learned.

Calling all my sewists for some advice: Remember that green pillow cover I bought? I’m going to make a bag out of it. My questions is…..which direction do you think I should cut the fabric. Against the ā€œgrainā€ or with it? I’m leaning towards the ā€œstripesā€ going horizontally because that feels natural and might reduce pilling when I’m putting it all together.
