In 2019 I had one fruit tree. A fig tree. I had zero idea what I was going to do with all of the fruit it was producing. I wondered if I could figure out how to make jam. I found a recipe and sure enough…not only could I make it, it was delish! Then I wondered if I could figure out how to can it so I didn’t have to fill up my fridge with all the jars I was making. That’s what started my canning/preserving journey. Now I have 19 more fruit trees as well as berries and grapes and veggies etc. I have learned to can meat and shelf stable meals in jars. 🫙 I started dehydrating and milling my own wheat berries and creating sourdough and ginger bugs and fermented everything. I blame the fig. This is the jar that started everything 😂

BREAKING: DOJ just charged 28 noncitizens with illegally voting in California with 11 arrested this morning in "Operation Protect the Vote." Every one of them was on the list of 20,000+ likely noncitizen registrants DOJ handed California last week. California refused to check it. @USAttyEssayli: "Elections belong to American citizens. Even if one noncitizen votes in an election, that is a violation of the constitutional rights of every voter in California who has a legal right to have their vote be counted equally and not diluted by noncitizens."

Good Morning I am up with coffee in hand, it’s chilly, was 42F when I woke up but its a respectable 65F in here… Today, in about 1.5h, the journey to the city begins and then it’s a mad race to fit us both into the diagnostics these Drs have planned... I get “ogled at” by some cardiologist (and I’m pretty much already hostile so that man don’t know it but he’s got his work cut out for him this morning) and pop pop gets injected with them nasty nuclear peptides, then stuck in the PET scan… After all that we get to go to another facility and see the kind Japanese hematologist. We do love him… By time we get done it will 15:30, then we’ll have to come home. The pets will miss their noonday routine but they’ll be ok… The last time pop pop got that PET scan the “teenage” looking little girls missed his vein (after five sticks) and dumped idk how much of the nuclear material into his arm tissue and not in his veins so I’m not sure that $4500 test was even viable. So today is full of anxiety and unknowns. I have no idea what they will do with me in cardiology, but it says on my paper that the visit is 15min - and that’s all they are getting… Otherwise they’ll make us late driving to the imagery center for Pop Pop. Tomorrow we get to go back again and do all the urology tests and visits. This is why I don’t have time to be “sick”, or drunk for that matter… Anyway… This PET scan imagery place is a conundrum. They told pop pop he couldn’t have any food after midnight, only take his morning meds with water. Well that’s BS… I had a PET scan at UMMC (some years back) and they put my IV peptides in, waited 30min for me to have a reaction (or not) THEN sent me across the street for lunch where I had fries, a cheeseburger and three beers 😂🤣 told me to come back in 2.5 hours and that lunch was fine. Idk what they doing over in Tupelo Miss because he is supposed to be NPO then get the IV stuff and wait in the lobby for only an hour before the machine scans him. I have zero faith in these NMMC facilities or their staff… Mostly they were just concerned could we pay the $1200 down payment, which we can and likely that’s all they’ll get from us anyway... After they tore up his arm so badly last time, they did not get paid squat for the rest... I remember telling that lady “Do you pay people to tear up your truck when it goes in for an engine checkup? Well your staff has dumped so much stuff into this man’s tissue that his skin is yellow. Look at it…” and they had to write the rest off. Don’t let medical facilities bully you. You are there to be made better, not made worse. We probably won’t get Popeyes today, the time window is going to be too tight but we can get it tomorrow… Popeyes Chicken Sandwiches are usually our treat for the long drive and jackassery. Well anyway, ima jump off here and start getting ready. It’s going to be a long one today, I hope everyone has a Monday that isn’t too crazy!!!

Missouri has broken containment. I can’t keep it a secret anymore, so I might as well be honest. Southern Missouri is way better than northern, more public land, prettier landscapes, lakes etc. If you want to move to Missouri, south of I70 is where to go.

I have a beautiful home for sale in SEMO, 15 minutes to two different rivers, 30 to the lake and not a stoplight near us for 45 miles. We are trying to downsize to a single level for my health and would love to sell to a family looking to raise their babies in Gods Country. ☺️

It's been one of the hardest and most challenging year's for me - in ways I did not expect. I did not expect to go through a period of feeling so completely broken, unloved and worthless. Not because I am any of those things - but because I gave so much of myself, that I forgot to take care of me. I'm learning to be softer, kinder and easier on myself - at the same time to challenge myself to do more then I could yesterday, to dare to try new things, make new friends and find the direction God is steering me to with Grace and Patience. I'm not healed, I'm fractured and my tears come randomly and often without reason. But! I am doing things! Yesterday I sat I at my sewing machine and started a project last month I wouldn't dare attempt. It's taking me much longer than someone with skill, I'm making mistakes - but I am doing it! Yesterday I pulled out my camera and walked outside to capture a little beauty in my world - I haven't picked it up in over a year. And yesterday I walked out to the shop and built a little ladder for my Chickens - it's not perfect - but I did it! I am going to beat this darkness and find what lies on the other side of having my son disappear from my life as if I am a toy that can be cast aside. I miss him dearly, I wish he would give me just a little grace and work out our disagreement - but I also understand he is in God's hands and things will be what they will be. But the darkness will never destroy me. I will walk my way out one step at a time. God's love is amazing and I am worth the Grace he extends to me.

Low and slow. I like that. It feels safe. I've tried to remove myself from the high emotion situations - for now. But dang if the little things don't bring the emotions out regardless. When I am having a dark day - I jump in the car and find my sermon radio station - it always seems to bring me back to center listening to God's word. I feel in a better place then I was a year ago - so I am sure that is progress! God is the way through all things!

The delicate cycle is still pretty intense and too much for woolens. I might be okay with using lingerie bags for cotton yardage, but NOT for the corduroy!!! The main problem is you cannot choose just to do a spin, for instance. There's nothing on the dial for selecting just part of a cycle. There are add-ons like an extra rinse, but you can't just do the rinse. I think I might buy a Panda clothes spinner. Then I can do hot soapy water in my kitchen sink, a rinse in the sink, and then spin in the Panda. I have stuff like three yards of 45" black cotton in a few weights, and I'd like to make sure it isn't going to bleed, let alone the shrinkage potential. The newest fabric in that closet is at least three years old and a bit dusty (our neighborhood is under constant construction), and the oldest fabric is from the 1980s. Just a little handling has made my eyes water and my nose get runny, so it's gotta be washed. Luckily I enjoy ironing!

Yes! “Low and slow” that’s a phrase I always used at work to de-escalate high emotional or tense situations. Talk low and slow. It works on myself too. When I feel overwhelmed or flooded whether it’s the sads or anger or whatever, I talk to myself and do things low and slow. No need to rush healing ❤️. Besides that, giving God the time to work in you and heal you at His pace means you trust Him. You are doing amazing!!!!

I just realized I can't easily pre-wash fabric remnants with the speed queens the way I did with my ancient Whirlpool. They're a little too vigorous. Hmph. Time to get one of those hand powered spinners I think.

Prior to getting the schoolhouse at the end of 2019, we stayed in camper trailers in our forest. My parents still do occasionally. They won't anymore. Here's what happened sometime between Monday afternoon and Friday afternoon:

Good Morning ☀️ I drank almost an entire box of beer yesterday and now I’ve found sobriety again… What I didn’t drink, I have poured out and the box of beer drinking is done around here. Told my bestie not to be showing up over here with beers either, which is actually how I fell off the wagon back in the spring (after having had 14 perfect months). So I’m very happy. I’ve drawn lines again and freed myself up from the self fuckery. And the cost because it’s basically $30 for a box of beer and two bags of ice and we do not have money to be wasting on that. SO Happy Sunday, and at least this time it only took seven months to throw it away again 🤣 last time it was seven years… ok I’m going back to bed with my aspirin and coffee…. Yes, you can just do things and Jesus will help you do them. Just ask him.

Love that! Do you have any idea why I bought some turquoise fabric with a toothbrush print? I wonder if I thought it was something else (bad vision, this happens often). What would you sew with a toothbrush print? Maybe a few bathroom kit bags... I've been digging in the stash for a few days, looking for some whole cloth quilt fabric I thought I had and starting to match up some remnants for a pieced quilt. Recruited DH today since he can actually see what he looks at, and he found two lengths of fun dinosaur fabric, some star system fabric, and a few other goodies for new quilts for him. Some of what he chose goes best with a jet black backing but do I really really want to sew a black quilt??? Might just do the sashing in black and maybe a narrow strip of a contrasting color that bridges between the other colors and a more normal backing color... I'd bought a bunch of plaid flannel for pajamas some years ago when it was on clearance. Tried a few pairs. None of us actually like to wear them. We're more sweat pants people than flannel pj people. So I have umpteen yards of cotton flannel. Some will become quilt backing. Found the fabulous mint green manatee print I bought some years back for my auntie and cousin. Will sew that one first. Just a whole cloth quilt and I'll go in and hand stitch some of the manatee outlines or something like that. The cotton batting is so stable it doesn't need much. Will make a few with cotton batting and aiming to make a few with @thewoolshire wool batting.

You have so many fun projects to do! I would say a travel zipper bag for your toothbrush and toothpaste or a koozie for your bathroom glass that you use when you brush your teeth? I can’t wait to see what you make with it all That manatee fabric sounds fun!

I ordered the little snipper too 🤣😂 I have a pair of Guggenhein embroidery and a giant pair of fabric ones for cutting long strips and they are amazing scissors… I paid full price for them too so it’s nice to see with this discount you can collect a few more for a scissors ✂️ kit! The dang wheel cutters are sold out mine is a fiskats but it does skip a little I had no idea Guggenhein made cutter wheels

Some of these pomegranates are huge and a few are tiny 😂. They are getting ready! I’m super excited for them to be ripe but I think it’s still too soon. Last year I harvested in the middle of November….
