After working alongside Alaskans for years, we’re making progress on my Bycatch Reduction Act—the most comprehensive bycatch bill introduced in Congress. It passed out of the Commerce Committee but was blocked by Democrats when I brought it for a vote on the Senate floor. But we aren’t done. We’re going to pass this bill and reduce trawl bycatch!

For more than 30 years, Alaskans have been asking for a life-saving road connecting King Cove to Cold Bay—and we’re closer than ever. On my last trip to King Cove, I was honored to be joined by the leaders working to get this project across the finish line, including Mayor Warren Wilson, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation Ryan Anderson, and Sean McMaster, Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration. Exciting news for Alaska! The Coast Guard has awarded a $315 million contract for the design and construction of a cutter mooring and new fuel pier at Base Kodiak. This is great news for our Coast Guard, Alaska’s economy, and the hard-working families of Kodiak. America is an Arctic nation because of Alaska, and Arctic security is critically important to American security. The Trump administration understands this. That is why, working together, we’ve delivered the largest military build-up in Alaska since World War II. Greenland is likewise strategically vital to American and NATO security, as it was throughout the Cold War. I applaud @POTUS, @SecRubio, and others on the very important agreement reached today by the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland, which expands our security cooperation, strengthens America’s military access to Greenland, and prevents our adversaries from gaining a foothold in this important territory. From expanded basing and access for American forces to the development of the Golden Dome missile defense system, this agreement paves the way for a stronger NATO alliance and a more secure American homeland.

For years, Obama-era diesel regulations that cause trucks to stop working in extreme cold have put Alaskans in danger. The EPA even criminalized local mechanics who were simply trying to keep drivers safe. I worked with these mechanics to get them presidential pardons, but we must fix the system for good. That is why I introduced the Cold Weather Diesel Reliability Act, which recently passed the EPW committee and is heading to the Senate floor! This bill will finally stop these dangerous, one-size-fits-all policies from being forced on Alaska.

It's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and here in Alaska, we appreciate our truckers! Nearly all of our communities rely entirely on trucks to get the supplies they need—no truckers, no goods, it's that simple. Behind every delivery is one of the nearly 13,000 people working in Alaska's trucking industry, representing 1 in every 19 workers statewide. To our truck drivers: thank you for keeping our great state moving, mile after mile. 🚛

The @EPWGOP passed my Cold Weather Diesel Reliability Act! My bill ends an EPA compliance trap and prevents the dangerous shutdown of engines in extreme cold temperatures. This is a huge step forward for truckers, farmers, mechanics and operators who keep Alaska and our nation moving.

Over the past few years, I’ve talked with hundreds and hundreds of Alaskans about our declining salmon runs in some of our waterways—fishermen, Alaska Native leaders, and community members—listening to their concerns, hearing their ideas, and working with them on solutions. Today, that work reached a major milestone. My Bycatch Reduction Act—the most comprehensive bycatch bill ever introduced in the Congress—passed out of the @SenateCommerce Committee. Four Democrats voted against it, including a Washington State senator. Now, this legislation is headed to the Senate floor. It’s the result of listening to Alaskans, bringing their concerns to Washington, and turning their ideas into action.

Small businesses are the backbone of Alaska! Today I was honored to be recognized as an @NFIB Guardian of Small Business—an award given to lawmakers who consistently champion small businesses and entrepreneurs on key issues. I'll keep advocating for Alaska's small business owners and working alongside them to help their businesses grow, hire, and thrive!

From hauling fuel, equipment, and critical supplies up the Haul Road to keeping communities supplied across our state, Alaska’s truckers keep our state and economy moving. But for many years, these hard-working Alaskans have been put at risk by Obama-era EPA regulations like diesel emissions systems requirements that can shut down truck engines in Alaska’s extreme cold temperatures. I’ve worked with @epaleezeldin to end the enforcement of these one-size-fits-all regulations. But the work doesn’t stop there. My Cold Weather Diesel Reliability Act will prevent a future administration from reinstating these disastrous mandates—protecting our truck drivers and hard-working Alaskans across our great state.

September 11, 2001. Never Forget.

One year ago today, Charlie Kirk was tragically taken from us. Charlie devoted his life to championing freedom: freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the freedom to organize—particularly for younger generations. He had the courage to bring these principles to college campuses across the country, in order to engage with those that disagreed with him and to pursue respectful, civil debate. Today, Julie and I are praying for his wife, Erika, his children, and all those who knew him, loved him, and were inspired by him. Let’s honor Charlie’s memory by continuing to challenge ideas, defend free speech, reject political violence, and pursue open and civil debate with respect for one another as fellow Americans.

What a great visit with the students and faculty at King’s Christian School in Mat-Su! I had the chance to talk with these bright young Alaskans about the roles and responsibilities of a U.S. Senator, take some very thoughtful questions, and tour the school. A definite highlight was reading “If You Give a Moose a Muffin” to the kindergarten class—a book I became very familiar with as a young dad! Thanks to everyone at King’s for the warm welcome and a really fun visit.

Great to visit with the hardworking TOTE and Teamsters employees who keep Alaska moving at the Port of Alaska! From the goods Alaskans depend on to the military buildup at JBER to the resurgence of oil and gas development on the North Slope to the future Alaska LNG project, so much of Alaska’s future depends on this port. But the Port is aging rapidly.   That’s why—through my work on the @SenateCommerce, @EPWGOP, and @SASCGOP committees—I’ve helped secure roughly $200 million in federal funding as part of more than $500 million in federal and state grants for this project. We also changed federal law to make port funding decisions work better for Alaska, helping the Municipality secure a $50 million grant—one of the largest awards in the country.   We’re all pulling on the same oar to ensure this port is able to support Alaska’s economy and America’s national defense for generations to come.
