The American Task Force on Lebanon’s (ATFL) Board of Advisors met with US officials and lawmakers in Washington, D.C. on Thursday to discuss critical issues facing Lebanon. Discussions centered around a number of topics and issues, including the Trilateral Framework Agreement, US-Lebanon relations, political and economic reforms, the pilot zone plan, regional dynamics, Hezbollah disarmament efforts, and more. Having met with senior Lebanese political and security leaders during a recent trip to Lebanon in August, board members were able to provide US officials and a bipartisan set of congress members with critical insight and updates. Board members began the day with a breakfast with US representatives Darin Lahood (R-IL) and Darrell Issa (R-CA). The board then held individual meetings with senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Katie Britt (R-AL), Jack Reed (D-RI), and staff from the office of Elissa Slotkin (D-MI). The day concluded with a meeting with Jonathan Fischer, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.
