I watched The Odyssey a few days ago, and it's taken that long for me to really process it, to recover & see what it meant to me - It's one the best films I've ever seen. It captivates you for 3 hours straight, I didn't have a moment where my brain crept back into reality. I was entranced, and I came out of it in a daze - It makes the fantasy, the mythology, feel real and believable the entire time. I think this partly a by product of not using CGI. It reminds me of LOTR. - It makes you feel. Something quite difficult to do in 3 hours, because I've gotten used to long series where I have multiple seasons to build emotional attachment to characters. - It made me reflect on my own odyssey. I just turned 30. I spent 10 years experimenting, meandering, building skills and gaining experiences, and I'm at a place now where I have really good clarity of who I am and what my long term goals are. The next 10 years, I'm going to get home to my Ithaca. I might have to fight monsters, avoid getting turned into something I'm not, and forget where I'm going. But I'll remember. That's the promise I made to myself, I'll remember, like Odysseus does.
