Our campaign is about reducing burnout, returning the time we had to actually fix our services and regaining comparable pay. Here's me explaining on GBNews. #DemandBetter

First consultant job I came to on BMJ careers when I looked in the international section. In case you're wondering about £533,000 per annum. To be fair I've no idea what is behind the recruiter but it looks like standard Canadian setup. 59% of UK medical units have vacancies.

We're going to run a webinar on the demands on Thursday evening. Keep an eye out for your email/WhatsApp. Bring questions - although typically we can only cover 10% we'll use them for FAQs for all. Please retweet and share on your in-work WhatsApps. See you Thursday;-)

Government value consultant's demands at £1-2b. It's worth noting that the NHS budget is £280b (so =0.7% of budget max). Consultants are at the very pointy end of providing NHS care & also *driving improvement*, this isn't done by people with spreadsheets or in Whitehall. Improving burnout, morale, retention & time to improve services isn't a nice to have it's essential for the very survival of the NHS.

Its a high pressure, high stress job. We don’t deserve year on year paycuts.
Consultants don’t want to strike, but after 18 months without formal negotiations, they cannot wait any longer. These strikes are planned to take place on 25 and 26 November, with Christmas Day levels of cover provided. There is still time for the Government to make progress.

If you think it's not important to fix conditions and pay for consultants then read just one of the messages I got today. Where are the Drs? They've gone to places with better work life balance and better pay. Without Drs there's no NHS.

Doctors’ London Weighting hasn’t increased in more than 20 years, while rent, travel, childcare and other costs have all soared. London's doctors work with an outdated allowance. @BMALondon

This is the last week of talks with government and employers. While they’ve been open and frank there remains a significant chance we won’t reach a “landing zone”. We hope to avoid industrial action but we must be prepared.

"A desperate culture of cover-up and denial that prizes saving face over saving lives." @thomasdolphin on how the Thirlwall Inquiry report highlights the need to protect whistleblowers and shows that NHS managers should be regulated, in the same way other safety-critical groups are. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Accountability must apply to everyone working in the NHS. That's why we're calling for regulation of non-medical managers. Read our full response to the Thirlwall Inquiry bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

Expensive exam fees have always been an unfair financial burden for resident doctors trying to progress in their careers. But this is set to change. As agreed in the deal made with the government earlier this year, resident doctors will soon be able to apply to have Medical Royal College and Faculty exams reimbursed. A complete list of Medical Royal College and Faculty exams that will be covered is now available on our website and the Academy's website. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/res… The system is expected to go live in the next few weeks, along with guidance on how to claim. Stay tuned for further updates 👀

We’re getting rid of uncertainty & instability for locally employed doctors. It brings stability for visa holders and doctors stuck in the bottleneck. It brings an end to reapplying for your own job every 6 - 12 months. We are holding the govt’s feet to the fire on this deal.
‘Start winding down that gig economy’ @BMAResidents chair @fletchjack welcomes the arrival of new guidance outlining employers' requirement to transfer locally employed doctors to substantive, nationally recognised contracts. Read in full👇 bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/…
