This is actually useful to weed out lazy copy-pasta while grading or evaluating papers, proposals, etc. Feature, not bug.

Why can't this be a setting in Word to automatically make all pasted copy match the formatting??? I spend Waay too much time cleaning up pasted copy.

For macOS users, try: option+command+V instead of only command+V. If it‘s a native macOS app, it should paste the content as „plaintext“ and flush any styling-information.
