Canada currently accounts for nearly 80% of US potash imports, even though trade relations between the two countries remain strained. However, analysts doubt that Minsk can rapidly increase export volumes. Due to EU sanctions, Belarus cannot use the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda and is forced to transport the fertilizer to the sea via a longer and more costly route through Russia. This shipment is small compared to the 5.6 million tons of potash fertilizer the US imported last year. The deliveries come against the backdrop of a global fertilizer shortage caused, among other factors, by the conflict in the Middle East and transport disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Thankfully, there is zero chance of this scenario unfolding because, despite Trump’s lies to the contrary, Iran does not possess nuclear weapons nor do they have the ballistic technology necessary to deliver such a payload to the West Coast of the United States.
