I (SC) mistakenly thought Jesus was apocalyptic in a "the whole world will burn" sort of way, but Malcolm looked at the relevant references in the New Testament and it turns out he was foretelling (with shocking accuracy) very real "end times" about to hit his local community.

Apparently I wasn't alone in my misunderstanding. C.S. Lewis called Mark 13:30 (parallel to Matthew 24:34 and Luke 21:32) “the most embarrassing verse in the Bible” Jesus states, "Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done."

But when you look at the context in which Jesus makes his predictions, it's pretty clear he's talking about the destruction of the second temple.

But of course those quotes were written by people who never met Jesus, and wrote them 37 years after his death. It was written during the destruction of the temple, so what an amazing prophesy!
