Your speciality pharma portco doesn't sell anything on Black Friday. It still pays the Black Friday surcharge.
Peak surcharges apply based on shipment volume and timing inside the carrier's published Q4 schedule, not based on whether the shipment is retail-driven. A health system moving specimens, supplies, or equipment in October, November, or December is billed against the same published peak table as a D2C brand shipping gift orders.
The assumption that peak season is a retail problem has kept most healthcare organizations from checking whether their contract has any peak protection at all.
The carrier doesn't check what you're shipping before applying the surcharge. It checks the calendar. Healthcare ships on the same calendar.

A 1-year contract isn't flexibility. It's giving your carrier an annual chance to reprice you.
A 3-year deal with no early termination penalty and no rebate clawback? That's flexibility.
