Many people helped me get through my cancer journey...here's one 🥹
When I was diagnosed with cancer in early 2021, a former client's husband, Shawn Huber, reached out and offered to help. He had been through chemo and knew what I was facing.
I didn't know Shawn personally, but he still offered to lead me through guided meditations regularly. Despite my initial attempts to turn him down, that's what we did.
It was comforting to have someone in my life who had experienced it.
The first set of rounds was the "red devil" well known as the "hardest" chemo. So as I transitioned to Taxol for the second set of rounds, I expected it to be easier. The truth was that it was still kicking my ass.
I was embarrassed.
Shawn said, "Kristin, if I drop a 100lb weight on your bare feet, that's gonna hurt like hell, right?"
I said, "Yeah, of course".
He said, "Cool, now I'm gonna drop a 75lb weight on it. Feel better?"
😅 He absolutely nailed it.
The meditations he guided me through brought me peace during a time when peace was sometimes hard to find. The way he listened, his kindness, and acceptance made me feel safe when I didn't feel emotionally safe around many people.
I found out that Shawn (in his 50's) passed away suddenly a few days ago. He was, and is, an angel.
Many blessings to Shawn and all who loved him. May we all be so generous with our hearts and our gifts.
