With roughly 40% of polls reporting, nearly one in four votes cast have gone to Option 2.
Many will see tonight as a catastrophic setback for Alberta’s independence movement.
I don’t.
What we just witnessed was a grassroots movement stand against the combined weight of Canada’s political, media, and academic establishment, in the face of what I believe was one of the most relentless campaigns against a political movement since COVID.
And despite all of that, roughly one in four voters have backed a path toward Alberta independence.
Think about where this movement stood just a few years ago. Now, hundreds of thousands of Albertans have expressed their support at the ballot box.
I don’t see tonight as the end of anything.
I see it as the first major milestone in the next evolution of Alberta’s independence movement.
This isn’t the end.
It’s the end of the beginning.
