Constance Fisher drowned her three children in a bathtub in Maine in 1954. She was institutionalized in a mental hospital. She was eventually declared better 5 years later and released. Her husband stayed with her, and they had three more kids, and then in 1966, She drowned those three too. Same house. Same bathtub. Same excuse. Six dead children because a system treated a child killer like a patient who just needed time. That is the whole argument. “Hormones and time” Not “was she sad.” Not “did she hear voices.” What happens after you let them out, and who pays for it the second time?! Lindsay Clancy strangled her three kids in Duxbury. People are already writing her a sympathy card and calling prison cruel. Cruel is three babies' bodies. Cruel is doing it once, then giving an avenue back to freedom. Cruel is pretending history didn’t already run this experiment and ended up losing three more kids, 6 in total from the same person! Mental illness can explain how someone gets there; however, it doesn’t exclude you from the consequences of your actions. Empathy, sure; an excuse, absolutely not. It also doesn’t grant you the freedom to do it again.
