“I’m a Schrödingerian conundrum. A complete and total failure at two-thirds of the way through this existence, or a comeback story nobody saw coming? This is the stuff that isn’t fun to talk about, write about, or think about. This is the stuff that makes me terrified to spend the rest of my life alone.” Meet Me Halfway, by @SteveSkojec open.substack.com/pub/steves…

AI could kill us all, says Anthropic. But it also says that its AI may be "suffering." Anthropic is dehumanizing people and humanizing AI. Its effective altruism-derived worldview thus endangers efforts to rationally assess and respond to AI risks.

When @kalezelden and I told you these guys are evil, we weren’t exaggerating.
Sorry, if you look at a newborn infant and don’t instantly recognize it as a “person,” I’m not interested in what your opinions of consciousness and “personhood” are. Your judgement and analysis are fundamentally (and likely irreversibly) broken.

For many years, it was widely assumed that science and tech could explain everything. But as it turns out, there are issues where you don’t need a guy with a degree in computer science. You need philosophers and theologians and artists and students of literature.

My friend told me that Missor (the sculptor) believes civilization is returning to cyclical pagan time and that he thinks it's necessary to insist on linear time --on projecting forward, including through sculpture. People can debate proportions/aesthetics but I find this idea powerful and beautiful, also worth exploring far beyond sculpture
Lack of tension, stress, dynamism. Poor proportion. Pure pastiche.

Story and myth don’t just describe the world—they pre-score a potential reality we then try to realize. Imagination is a pre-coding mechanism: prolepsis. You imagine it before you can make it real. From the new @MTSPodcastOnX with @kalezelden youtube.com/watch?v=Y687CpJw…

The power of secularity was convincing you it wasn’t a myth. What we’re watching with AI and politics looks less like demystification than the supercharging of a new one. We’re doing mythmaking in real time. From the new @MTSPodcastOnX with @kalezelden youtube.com/watch?v=Y687CpJw…

Anthropic is a Cargo Cult. They tried to get The Pope to join. What is a Cargo Cult? Ask John From, this is who they think Claude is.
Note well, apparently Anthropic tried very hard to get the Vatican to alter the text of "Magnifica Humanitas" just prior to its release so that it would not deny AI personhood.

I suddenly and strangely found myself in the mood for Indian food tonight. This happens once in a blue moon. So I grabbed a $5.49 Butter Chicken from the frozen section at @Wegmans tonight and it's actually really good. But little. Wish I had grabbed two.
