Andy Burnham and the greedy Labour Mayors are delusional comparing Paris, Rome, Barcelona to Derby or Sheffield EU hotels as well as paying only 10% VAT many of those cities have too many tourists. We are desperate for them. 95% of visitors to my hotels are British most of them travelling for work, family or wedding. This is yet an unfair tax on British people and the hospitality industry.

The @Daily_Express have their Leader and big article on the Tourism Tax along with my comment piece on it. They have a consistent track record of campaigning for the UK tourism sector- well done @ExpressGilo

If the government is so desperate to raise cash rather than tax one sector of business, tax all businesses by increasing corporation tax or VAT at lease that’s more fair.

Mayors given the power to raise taxes on businesses! Not any business, just hospitality putting up the cost of UK holidays, most of EU only pay 10% VAT for overnight stay. Will mean more youth unemployment! telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

So why do you have to pay to drop off at an airport in the UK? You already paid for your ticket! Do any other countries charge this? Most give a period of grace. @EMA_Airport @manairport @bhx_official UK etc monopoly rip off!

The glass bottle tax threatening to shatter Britain thetimes.com/article/9ec2f62… Everyone is talking about the “glass bottle tax”, but very few people have even heard of EPR – Extended Producer Responsibility. For many businesses, particularly pubs, bars, restaurants and hospitality operators, EPR has already become a huge  cost. In many cases, these businesses are effectively paying twice for waste collection and recycling. And if you think that’s bad, wait until the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) arrives. Under DRS, consumers will pay a 20p deposit (plus VAT) on every eligible can and bottle purchased, regardless of the size of the container. To reclaim that deposit, containers must be returned through reverse vending machines or collection points. Consumers will be pushed towards larger containers to minimise the number of deposits they pay. Hospitality businesses will face additional administration, storage and handling costs. We and other drinks  manufacturers are already reconsidering their packaging formats These policies were conceived under the Tories by figures such as Michael Gove, and have since been enthusiastically adopted by Labour  #Hospitality #Pubs #Restaurants #DRS #EPR #Recycling #FoodAndDrink #BusinessCosts #Packaging #UKBusiness

Just shows the government and civil servants have not got a clue how businesses works. Huge complexity around different VAT rates for kids, till systems, menus, accounting systems need to be updated! Best to charge 10% VAT like the majority of EU for all hospitality!

I am outside The Royal Courts one of the claimants of the Judicial Review into the changes of IHT for Family Firms and Business. Great to see so many farmers here supporting the cause. This came out of the blue without proper consultation or impact assessment.
