It has been nearly 15 years since I did a pastel work. Learned it from Nancy Thompson at Ames, IA. A very patient teacher and I enjoyed her classes, so this weekend replicated her method, listening to music while giving my interpretation of Indrani from Udaipur museum. #selfcare

In Tamil "Aravamanai".
In Marathi "Vizhi" with the hard La.
My Amma, Ammamma used this a lot for cutting and peeling vegetables in kitchen. Used to cut quite well. In Telugu we call it Katthi Peeta literally meaning "Knife (Katthi) on a stand (Peeta)".
In Telangana it's called as Elipeeta.
Again with many new cutting boards coming in, don't see this much in cities , now mostly in small towns. How many of you experienced this?

Delhi has been having a banger of a weather the last three days. Cool mornings, clear skies, cooler nights. Basically, the weather one had before Delhi became polluted and the Delhi of my childhood. Also, the best time to be a tourist.

That's my mother tongue...an archaic form of Marathi written in Modi script (now defunct)...When I speak this in front of Maharashtrians they are bewildered and confused. Makes sense since some words are not used anymore and the enunciation is slower than current Marathi.
Our beloved Marathi travelled with Vyenkojiraje Bhosale to Tamilnadu 300 years ago. And mixed a little with Tamil to form Thanjavur Marathi - a language frozen in time. Archaic words like Udanda and Bahu to mean Khoop are still used. Feels like listening to 300 year old Marathi.
