2/ Tomorrow on Sub Club Live he walks through the playbook for turning UGC views into revenue: → Organic as the creative test, then moving winners into paid → When relatability wins, and when a utility app needs an authority hook → Picking creators by who buys the app, not follower count → What thousands of posts a month costs, and which apps this doesn't work for Plus live audience Q&A. 9 a.m. PT / 6 p.m. CEST piped.video/watch?v=H1Uw641U…

Excited for it.
Dawson Gibbs (@evodawson) got a faith app to 150M views and $2.5M in revenue. Eight years earlier: bodybuilding content, 2,000 videos, 250K followers, and not a cent from a brand. His first deal was Cal AI. He asked $1,000 for one post. They came back with $1,500 for six. He's been building the system ever since. 1/

"I didn't have a Mac. I didn't know what Xcode was. I knew nothing." — César Pinto Castillo, @ambre_app He agreed to build the app anyway. Then bought a $150 PowerBook G4. Could it build iOS apps? Nope. 💻 Full ep. with @JagCesar & @FosiaDesign: piped.video/watch?v=y2xmqABa…

1/ BoldVoice is at $10M ARR with a team of 10. One early decision: charging from the first weeks of YC. $10 a month, one-week trial, nothing fancy. @AnadaLakra on why charging early was how they found their customer 🧵

3/ Same reason BoldVoice never built a Duolingo-style free base. Duolingo's free base works for hobby learners. BoldVoice sells to professionals whose alternative is expensive 1:1 coaching. Different ICP, different playbook. Mixing them: "the worst thing that someone can do."

4/ Also in the episode: the hard paywall test that lifted trial starts, then got erased by refunds. And why every employee does 2 user interviews a week. Full ep with @drbarnard: piped.video/watch?v=-5zgc14t…

I’ve sold three apps, and never shared the sales price or numbers behind them. Founders rarely do! But this Thursday an app founder is letting me and @alwaysjoshp (who buys apps for a living) dig into his numbers live and come up with a valuation. RSVP: luma.com/sub-club-live

The receipts: I sold Gas Cubby in 2013 for $245k. Mileage Log+ in 2015 for $20k + 10% until a $60k cap. Mirror in 2017 for $405k. I also sold trademark rights for “Cubby” for $110k in 2012 (my app business was originally called App Cubby and @LogMeIn launched the “Cubby” app).

This Thursday: a founder opens his real books, LIVE on air. @alwaysjoshp buys apps for a living. He's going to value one in public, with the founder sitting right there. We're not saying whose app it is until we go live. Thu Sep 17, 9am PT / 12pm ET / 6pm CET 📅 Set a reminder: luma.com/sub-club-live 📺 Watch: piped.video/watch?v=rWAjuAQw…

"If I give you this $5k early, by October you're going to need another $5k, and then you're just in the cycle." First app shipped. Apple hadn't paid yet. Dad said no to the bridge loan. So @drbarnard sold the Honda Accord. 🚗 Episode 100: piped.video/watch?v=olIJliFf…
