I appreciate that a lot of liberals are implicitly conceding now that they did a smear campaign against George W. Bush that was mostly untrue to try to win the 2004 and 2008 elections. But, ya know, it doesn’t change the fact that you did that and our politics are worse for it.

This is bonkers revisionism. Iraq War was an incredible unforced error. We wasted all the good will we had with the international community, destabilized the region, and charted our path to unsustainable levels of debt and deficit. He wasn't a good president

Why do you think the Iraq War destabilized the region? What do you think would have eventually happened if the Hussein regime were still in power when the Arab Spring rolled around? Would the Shia Arab majority have just accepted that government forever? Extremely unlikely.

Get real dude. There was a regional check to Iran with Iraq, which disappeared and Iran proxies still operate in Iraq now. Next thing you'll defend is de-Ba'athification. Iraq War was sold on WMD and a bunch of Rumsfeld cronies trying to find any connection between Al Qaeda and Saddam, which obviously, there weren't.

You're right that the Iraq War was a terrible error. But the hatred for Bush from the left was orders of magnitude over the top, in my view. And that hatred for any Republican has only grown since.

What's the data to support that? The problem with claims like this is that they are often driven by feel as opposed to data

Also I'm sick of pretending Iraq was the only horrible decision they made that we're feeling the ramifications for. His tax cuts are the original sin of our debt, as well as the de-regulatory environment that didn't catch what was going to happen with the housing market.

I'd say the Iraq war wasn't an unforced error. The powers that pushed it, got what they wanted.

Iraq is a functional democracy with actual elections.

With loads of corruption, an inability to stop militias, and heavily influenced by the IRGC. I think most experts would say Iraq has taken good steps, but isn't the democracy the Bush administration envisioned. cfr.org/articles/twenty-year…

The Iraq war turned out to be correct.
