I appreciate that a lot of liberals are implicitly conceding now that they did a smear campaign against George W. Bush that was mostly untrue to try to win the 2004 and 2008 elections. But, ya know, it doesn’t change the fact that you did that and our politics are worse for it.

We enormously overcorrected from the excessive social trust of the Vietnam era to an environment of extreme social distrust. A lot of the anti-Bush politics were straight up anti-establishment conspiratorialism and I hope people can see that now.

This is bonkers revisionism. Iraq War was an incredible unforced error. We wasted all the good will we had with the international community, destabilized the region, and charted our path to unsustainable levels of debt and deficit. He wasn't a good president

Why do you think the Iraq War destabilized the region? What do you think would have eventually happened if the Hussein regime were still in power when the Arab Spring rolled around? Would the Shia Arab majority have just accepted that government forever? Extremely unlikely.

George Bush was the worst president we ever had up to that point. How could we have anticipated you’d keep nominating ever-worsening sociopaths?

I think some of the Bush hate was unhinged but no more so than the Clinton hate from the GOP in 1990s. (Hillary is a lesbian who murdered her lover Vince Foster? 🤣) What smears do you mean in particular?

Oh yeah 100% I think Republican smear campaigns are worse in general but I have more lib followers so I like to needle them. I think they tried to make it seem like Iraq was an unwinnable disaster in the mid to late 2000s when that wasn’t what any balanced analysis of the situation showed at that time. And they didn’t say this about Afghanistan where it would have been way more defensible which makes it seem like a weaponized partisan narrative to me. To their credit, Hillary and Obama both acknowledged they got it wrong on the troop surge but I’ve heard very few liberals admit that the far more catastrophic fallout from the Arab Spring kind of calls the entire narrative into question—how much can you even really blame Bush for the violence at all? That’s what I have expertise on anyways. I also this his proposed social security reforms that get demonized so much were quite sensible. It makes me skeptical of things I know much less about, like Katrina for example, because I feel like Bush got railroaded by negative media coverage in a similar way to how Biden later was to be honest with you.

Not true. The Iraq war was always a mistake and deservedly unpopular at the time. Obama only beat HRC in the 2008 primary because he got to say he never supported it.

Even after Bush obviously did far better in Iraq than we’ve seen any regime transition in the region since then you’re not going to have any nuance about it?

Between March 20, 2003 and January 2010 the United States lost 4,500 troops in Iraq looking for non existent nuclear weapons because you thought George W Bush was a fucking military strategist. Sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up. 🇺🇸💙😀

Bush never once said that the Hussein regime had nuclear weapons.

What smear campaign? He was not a good president. He started 2 wars and tanked our economy. I refuse to put on rose colored glasses when I look back at that time just because currently a shit for brains maniac is POTUS.

If you don’t think “he started 2 wars and tanked our economy” is partisan drivel than IDK what to say.

Bush was the worst president in history — until Trump. He bungled 9/11, Katrina, Afghanistan, Iraq, and led to the Great Recession. He ruined the early adult lives of millions of millennials, and killed/displaced millions around the world.

Yeah, this is hyper-partisan drivel sorry. It's as if you don't realize that you live in a partisan echo chamber.
