America’s #1 Home Solar & Storage Provider

San Francisco, CA
NEW: Sunrun and @span_io expand partnership to close the speed-to-power gap while making sure American homeowners benefit from AI’s growth. Today we announced a complete, distributed AI compute solution at gigawatt scale that can be deployed faster than traditional data centers. Plus, homeowners directly benefit in multiple ways from their participation in this powerful distributed AI solution. By pairing Sunrun’s home battery storage and solar energy systems with SPAN's XFRA compute nodes in new home communities, the partnership solves one of the main bottlenecks for distributed AI compute: power generation and transmission constraints. By optimizing existing energy infrastructure, Sunrun and SPAN are improving grid efficiency and helping power the rising demands of AI. More compute. Faster power. More value for homeowners. A historic moment for American energy: 140,000+ home batteries | 580 megawatts As California baked under extreme heat and energy demand surged on September 9, Sunrun and @teslaenergy dispatched more than 140,000 home batteries, delivering 580 MW of peak power to the state's grid in the largest residential distributed power plant event ever recorded in the United States. The dispatch event provided enough capacity to power every household in Sacramento County during peak hours. The extra power helped increase the grid's operating margin and put downward pressure on real-time energy prices for everyone in the state. Through grid service programs like DSGS and ELRP, home storage and solar are doing more than providing backup power and energy security to families. They’re helping make the grid more affordable and reliable while reducing the need for costly new poles, wires, and peaker plants. Everyday homeowners are keeping California's grid stable and making history in the process, all while being compensated for it. That’s the energy future we’re building in America. #AmericanEnergy #EnergyIndependence #BatteryStorage #HomeBatteries #OutageProtection #Distributed #Energy

Next week, Sunrun CEO Mary Powell joins Diane Brady, Editorial Director at Fortune, to discuss why the future of AI infrastructure may be less about building more and more about unlocking the capacity right in front of us. The AI revolution is creating an unprecedented demand for electricity, with much of the conversation focusing on new power plants. However, we believe the biggest opportunity may already exist in neighborhoods across America. Register for the event and happy hour here: antennagroup.com/antenna-hou….

We’re excited to join @PGE4Me and @Google on a new distributed power plant program in the San Jose area that brings our speed-to-power vision with Renew Home and @teslaenergy to life. Working together, Sunrun, Renew Home, and Tesla will enroll nearly 21,000 existing home energy devices into the program, immediately unlocking 12 MW of local energy capacity through demand response and battery dispatch. The new capacity is expected to begin supporting the grid as early as fall 2026. The program plans to test how energy already stored and managed in homes through batteries, home solar, and smart thermostats can help relieve local grid constraints and make better use of existing infrastructure while helping put downward pressure on rates for everyone in the region. Most importantly, the program provides benefits to customers for their participation. Sunrun customers can receive up to $200 per battery enrolled in the program. “Home energy devices hold enormous, untapped capacity that can meaningfully improve affordability and reliability for all Californians,” said Mary Powell, CEO of Sunrun. “This initiative unlocks that potential while giving customers an opportunity to share in the economic benefits of helping improve their local grid." “We’re excited to support this initiative to unlock the potential of local distributed energy resources to support grid capacity and resiliency while delivering meaningful benefits for local communities,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Global Head of Energy & Power at Google. “SHARE shows how investing in customers can unlock grid capacity, support growth, and bring real benefits back to communities,”said Chelle Izzi, Chief Commercial Officer, PG&E. Over the past two days, nearly 49,000 Sunrun customers helped reduce California’s peak energy demand through the Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS) program. On back-to-back evenings, these customers dispatched an average of roughly 250 MW of peak capacity from their home batteries for two hours each day. Take a look at these energy demand charts showing what’s possible when we put distributed energy to work. As former Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm wrote in the Los Angeles Times this week, the future funding of DSGS is at risk, even though extending the program could save California ratepayers more than $200 million by 2028. One more battery discharge test event is scheduled for tonight. You can follow along live on CAISO's website and see the impact of this program in real time. caiso.com/todays-outlook/dem… #California #EnergyResilience #BatteryStorage #DistributedEnergy

“Customers are in the driver's seat when they have our systems in their home. This is just another example of the innovation that we can drive around serving a critical societal need like AI. The reality is we depend on it. We all depend on it every day. And now this is a way for individual homes to become part of this demand, by supplying energy and getting paid for it.” Mary Powell joined Brian Sullivan on CNBC Power Lunch to discuss Sunrun's new distributed compute pilot and how homes with solar and battery storage can host compute capacity while creating value for families.

AI is driving unprecedented demand for compute and electricity. Meeting that demand has traditionally meant building more centralized data centers and grid infrastructure, a process that can take several years. We're introducing a different approach. Today, Sunrun launched a distributed AI compute pilot that places compute nodes in homes already equipped with solar and battery storage. By bringing compute closer to where reliable, affordable energy is generated and end users are, we're exploring a model that could bring a significant amount of compute capacity online in a fraction of the time it would take to build new energy infrastructure. Just as distributed energy transformed households from energy consumers into energy producers, distributed compute has the potential to give everyday Americans a direct role in powering the nation's AI future and sharing in the economic value it creates.
