"Burnham urges officials to come up with more radical options for Thames Water." Well done Andy Burnham @andyburnham There are ultimately just two answers to Thames Water, put the company into Special Administration and restructure - refinance it or give in to the demands of the New York vulture capitalists exposing tax payers and bill payers to yet more decades of exploitation. The latter of course is unacceptable. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Well after today’s announcement from the Bank of England, there is something very, very, very wrong in the system. So … let me get this straight: * British Gas made a profit of £1.3bn between January & June * BP announced profits of £6.95 billion between April and June alone * Shell has profited by £9.4bn in a year The MEN at the top: * John Pettigrew, boss of National Grid received £6.5m bonus on top of his salary * Chris O’Shea, chief executive of British Gas owner Centrica was paid almost £2m last year in salary and benefits * Centrica's non-executive directors were paid almost £1m * Scottish Power's CEO Keith Anderson is on £1.15m. * E.On boss Michael Lewis is on £1m * EDF's Simone Rossi is also on £1m * And their top execs enjoyed a share of £4.65m * Peter Simpson of Anglian Water earned a £1.3m pay package * Welsh Water bosses awarded themselves bonuses of over £930,000 * Severn Trent bosses awarded themselves bonuses of £5.56m * Thames Water's Sarah Bentley, received a £727,000 bonus on top of her £2m annual salary Meanwhile there are... * People who haven't had breakfast and/or lunch TODAY, because they can't afford it. * People using FoodBanks because food is becoming more of a luxury than a necessity. * Children celebrating a birthday without presents. * Parents worrying about new school uniforms - and some schools enforcing rules which are not cost-effective. * People who can't get to work because they can't afford to put petrol in their cars/pay for public transport anymore. * People who are working so much they're making themselves ill, and they STILL CAN'T AFFORD to pay their bills. * People who have been given fines by these same energy/water companies because they couldn't afford to pay their bills in the first place - increasing their debt. * Customers being told to do STAR JUMPS TO KEEP WARM for crying out loud! * Hose pipe bans when gallons of water leak away everyday. * Elderly people NOT DRINKING because they're worried about running out of water!!! All this and energy prices are set to rise up to 75% in October... THIS IS MADNESS!.. I'm all for supporting profits … I'm not for supporting greed at the cost of lives of others. Something needs to change. Why is customers' money being used to make life more comfortable for those who are making life more intolerable for the rest of us? I actually don't understand how the energy companies are allowed to get away with this and why the government aren't stopping them instead of handing out money.....

Generally a fan, but I fundamentally disagree with Canadian Prime Minister @MarkJCarney 's suggestion that British taxpayers should compensate Canadian investors if Thames Water is nationalised Thames Water has accumulated approximately £18.5 billion in debt, while customers have endured rising bills, sewage pollution and years of inadequate infrastructure investment. Meanwhile, previous shareholders extracted billions in dividends. Why should British taxpayers now be expected to protect private investors from the consequences of this failed financial model? Investors are entitled to profits and interest, but investments carry risks. They cannot expect to enjoy financial returns when times are good and have the British public absorb their losses when things go wrong. And there's a remarkable contradiction here. Canada's own water and sewage infrastructure is overwhelmingly publicly owned, operated by municipalities in cities including Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa. If public ownership is appropriate for Canadians, why shouldn't the British public enjoy the same protection? Indeed, shouldn't Britain be investigating whether previous owners and investors should compensate the public for excessive financial extraction, regulatory failures and the costs of repairing neglected infrastructure? Where wrongdoing or unlawful distributions occurred, recovery should be pursued. Legitimate creditors have legal rights, but that does not entitle them to guaranteed repayment at taxpayers' expense. Mr Carney should explain why Canadian financial interests deserve protection while British households are expected to shoulder the consequences of decades of debt accumulation and infrastructure failures. The profits were privatised. The debts and consequences must not now be socialised.

🆘 This is Sir James Eadie QC, the Government’s own barrister, in the Court of Appeal in 2019. Listen carefully to what he says. Theresa May was, he told the court, “entirely well aware” of the “notorious” facts surrounding the referendum: the Electoral Commission findings, police investigations, ICO work and parliamentary scrutiny. And then this: “It’s perfectly obvious that the PM has decided to carry on.” 🔥 That is the heart of it. The referendum was advisory. Serious unlawful conduct had already been established around the campaign. The PM knew the findings and proceeded anyway. At the same time, Parliament had authorised the Article 50 notification, but had never expressly enacted the separate Article 50(1) decision to withdraw. That was the issue raised in my own Webster judicial review. The courts refused permission in both Webster and Wilson. Now, years later, we are being told that Russia also interfered in the 2016 referendum. That is why this can no longer be brushed aside as old Brexit litigation. We need a statutory public inquiry under the Inquiries Act 2005. We need the documents, the intelligence assessments, the Cabinet record, the legal advice, the witnesses under oath, and the full Article 50 decision-making trail. Because the question is now very simple: What did the Government know, when did it know it, and on what basis was Britain actually taken out of the European Union? @JMPSimor @mrjamesob @mikegalsworthy @andyburnham

Here's the short answer. Social Care would be affordable if it was Nationalised. So would Energy. And Water. And Housing. And so on. The problem, no profit for billionaires. But that would be THEIR problem.

Meanwhile, you send an “implicit threat” to Clive Lewis, a sitting MP, because he opposes any Palantir presence in our public services - as do millions of UK citizens. We don’t want the same “intelligence” used in ICE & Israeli terrorist ops. You are a dark, nasty sellout.

Everything has been cut and each time it is cut something else needs to be cut. But always Billionaires take more and never get taxed. Cut billionaires, CUT THEM HARD.

BREAKING: OOPS! Trump panics after CNN, Politico, and MS NOW sue him for banning them and unleashes a pathetic rant about how much he loves free speech. Donnie is SHOOK… “The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America.” “It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW!” he added. “Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP” The outburst came shortly after the three outlets in question — which were barred from the White House last Friday — released a joint statement announcing their lawsuit to overturn the blatantly unconstitutional ban. “This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes,” the joint statement read. “Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists’ credentials because it objected to our reporting. Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference,” they added. Clearly, Trump realizes that he’s losing the PR battle on this doomed-to-fail power grab and he can scarcely afford another negative news cycle with his awful approval rating and the midterms right around the corner. This is damage control. And it is doomed to fail. Nobody outside of the frothing MAGA cult still believes that Trump supports the First Amendment. He supports free speech just so long as that speech is praising him. The moment that someone points out his myriad failures or mounts a challenge to his disastrous agenda, he rushes to strip their rights away. And it’s going to be impossible to defend his ban on “fake news” grounds in court since that term just means “news that I, Trump, dislike.” Good luck getting a judge to endorse that idea. The survival of our Constitution depends on Trump suffering a resounding defeat in this suit. He will. Please ❤️ and share if you support the lawsuit!
