AAI (which runs Chennai Airport) is asking TN govt for a direct road connection from NH179B to handle more cargo. This road will be built on the Adyar river (Since, we can’t acquire people land, rivers become a target). River here carries Chembarampakkam outflow, Stupidity 🤦1/2

I don’t much care about Parandur airport, TVK said, they oppose the airport, they got overwhelming support from KTCC in the election, so they stop it, people got what they voted for. But why to occupy Adyar river, nobody voted for this stupidest road project on the Adyar river.

As El Nino continues to strengthen this week the daily Nino 3.4 index has reached 3.1°C breaking the 2015 record which peaked during the month of November. In a way we all are heading into uncharterd territory. A year of unknown. NEM 2026 is also likely to be a year of unknown. This is the first of the two part COMK NEM outlook this year. The first part focusses on trying to find the closest year from the past (though no year is likely to come anywhere close in terms of the Nino levels this year). Please note the idea behind finding an analog year is not to give rainfall forecast but provide indicative monsoon performance. chennairains.com/nem-2026-a-… For some of you the post may be technical but as weather blogging evolves the interest levels and understanding also continues to evolve.

Kanchipuram dt is an old Palar delta, fertile soil with high rainfall. Sadly, TN is a basket case of bad landuse mgmt, due to red & green towel “political” groups, we can’t industrialise dry lands of west TN(groundwater level >1000ft), forced to build industry in fertile KTCC 1/2

Agriculture is the most water consuming activity, many industries need less water (recycling is possible). TN should not attract water intensive industries like Textile , sadly we lead in that area. We do everything against our geography
Remember 2400 paddy farmers consume equivalent fresh water of all industries in Chennai metropolitan region put together. Solution to our water issue is to Invest in less polluting industry and service sector. Stop glorifying Agriculture

To protect western ghats, Govt of India set-up Madhav Gadgil committee, that said, all areas of the ghats be protected & giving power to locals but GoI refused, setup a Kasturirangan, which identified 1/3rd of ghats as sensitive region, now Govt of KA setting up 3rd committee 1/3
JUST IN | Sending a strong message against the proposal to declare parts of the Western Ghats as ecologically sensitive areas (ESAs), the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution opposing the K Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats.
Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who tabled the resolution, informed the Council that a committee headed by a retired judge would be set up and a physical survey would be done to assess the impact of the report on the livelihoods of people living in the region. He said the survey would be completed in a year.
