Celebrating National Estuaries Week at Crystal Bay! The Natural Resource Trustees for the State of Texas, which include the Texas General Land Office, @TCEQ, and @TPWDnews, partnered with the @CityofBaytown and the Galveston Bay Foundation to build two new oyster reefs as part of the Baytown Nature Center Oyster Reef Restoration and Shoreline Protection Project. These new oyster and marsh habitats boost oyster growth, helping protect our shoreline from erosion. Fun Fact: a single adult oyster can filter over 50 gallons of water a day, keeping Texas’ waters clean and thriving. This work wouldn’t be possible without the City of Baytown, the Galveston Bay Foundation, and the amazing volunteers who filled and placed gabion baskets. Celebrating National Estuaries Week at Dressing Point, a vital haven for colonial waterbirds along our Texas coast. The Texas General Land Office, @DucksUnlimited, and @USFWS recently partnered to restore and protect approximately 11 acres of this important island. Dressing Point once supported more than 10,000 nesting pairs of colonial waterbirds, but numbers had dropped to about 1,500 pairs before restoration work began. With this project, our partners aim to preserve and strengthen the island’s role as a critical stop for these birds, helping ensure healthier, more resilient estuary habitats for years to come. We're grateful for the teamwork, stewardship, and shared commitment to Texas’ coastal ecosystems!
