Bowen carried a strong sense of patriotism and after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, he was eager to serve. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was sent overseas. [3/4]

On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., and the GLO honor and mourn the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were taken from us back in 2001. We extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of the heroic police officers, firefighters, first responders, and civilians who risked their lives to save our fellow Americans. And we thank all the brave men and women of our U.S. Military for defending our nation and protecting our freedom. May God Bless all of the victims and their families, and May God Bless the United States of America. We will #NeverForget. 🇺🇸
