Delegates and attendees at the Teamsters 31st International Convention today heard from Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Cory Booker (D-NJ). Last week, the United States House of Representatives passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA). With the passage of the FLCA in the House, the legislation now moves to the United States Senate.
The FLCA is bipartisan legislation that would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Sens. Booker and Hawley are the bipartisan co-sponsors in the United States Senate.
In addition to the FLCA, the Teamsters celebrated a variety of local and state-level legislation, including the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, the Delivery Protection Act, bans on captive audience meetings, and mandates for human operators in autonomous vehicles.

O’BRIEN, ZUCKERMAN REELECTED TO SECOND FIVE-YEAR TERM LEADING TEAMSTERS
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that Sean M. O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman have been reelected to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer, respectively, renewing a mandate for powerful, militant leadership on behalf of 1.3 million rank-and-file Teamsters across North America.
The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate was elected by white ballot at the union’s 31st International Convention in Las Vegas following a secret ballot vote of 1,572 delegates. All voting delegates were democratically elected to the convention by rank-and-file members from more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. No opposition candidates received enough votes to meet the Teamsters’ constitutionally required threshold to challenge the O’Brien-Zuckerman team.
“This victory belongs to rank-and-file Teamsters. When we were sworn into office four years ago, our leadership team committed to building a bigger, faster, stronger union, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve organized more than 100,000 new members, won historic agreements including a record contract for 340,000 members at UPS, and put rank-and-file members back in the driver’s seat. The Teamsters is now the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth,” O’Brien said. “Over the next five years, we have a lot of work ahead of us. The Teamsters face big fights at UPS and Amazon, and we are prepared to tackle those head on with the militancy and organization that has defined our administration. We will keep growing and never stop working for the members.”
“The Teamsters are stronger, more secure, and more prepared to take on greedy employers than at any point in our 123-year history. We have more than $1 billion in total assets, and our Strike and Defense Fund stands at approximately $365 million, providing the ammunition to take on the boss and protect our members,” Zuckerman said. “The Teamsters have accomplished so much to expand our ranks, exert real political influence, and safeguard our members in an ever-evolving economy. But we’re just getting started. The future is bright and the state of the union is strong in the Teamsters.”
O’Brien is a fourth-generation Teamster from Local 25 in Charlestown, Mass. Zuckerman joined the Teamsters more than four decades ago as a rank-and-file member in Houston and later went on to lead Local 89 in Louisville, Ky. Together, they bring an aggressive grassroots approach to taking on employers and prioritizing member involvement in the union.
Over the next five years, O’Brien and Zuckerman have pledged to continue the fight at UPS and Amazon, strengthen Teamsters density in core industries, defend and improve contracts across every division of the union, and build even bigger bipartisan coalitions to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act and other legislation to benefit working people.
The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate will take the oath of office in March 2027.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that 100,000 workers have joined the union since March 2022, marking one of the most successful organizing periods in modern labor history and underscoring the growing demand for strong union representation across the U.S. and Canada.
The milestone is the result of an aggressive organizing strategy led by Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, who have made union growth a top priority and invested heavily in organizing, bargaining, and contract enforcement.
"If anyone is still questioning whether the Teamsters are breaking through, they're not paying attention. We're negotiating record contracts, building powerful bipartisan coalitions, and organizing more than 100,000 new members,” O’Brien said. “The old complacent guard that ran this union before us spent a decade organizing 50,000 workers, and we've doubled that in just four years. You don't see this kind of growth, energy, or militancy anywhere else in the labor movement. The Teamsters are coming for what our members deserve — so get out of our way.”
The Teamsters’ growth has extended far beyond traditional industries. While the union continues to expand in freight, warehousing, delivery, and logistics, tens of thousands of new members have organized in sectors including health care, public services, cannabis, and Amazon. The union is also expanding through internal organizing in Southern “right to work” states, and negotiating neutrality agreements at employers including DHL, American Red Cross, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.
“There’s no stronger union in North America than the Teamsters. If workers want the best contracts, the highest wages, the most reliable benefits and protections on the job, they need to become Teamsters today and join the 100,000 new members we’ve organized in just four years,” Zuckerman said. “We are protecting one another and holding corrupt, greedy corporations accountable. The organizing surge includes victories at major companies throughout North America, including UPS, DHL, Costco, Sysco, UNFI, the American Red Cross, and hundreds of smaller employers. TEAMSTERS-LED FASTER LABOR CONTRACTS ACT PASSES U.S. HOUSE WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT
With bipartisan support, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA), a Teamsters-led bill that could become the strongest new labor legislation for American workers in generations. Just three weeks prior, the discharge petition filed by Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ, 1st District) received the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the landmark law that would hold employers accountable for delaying first union contracts.
“The Faster Labor Contracts Act is the most consequential labor bill to come before Congress in decades. Its bipartisan passage out of the House of Representatives is a significant milestone for millions of American workers,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The 1.3-million member Teamsters Union has worked tirelessly to build a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who are committed to improving the lives of working people. Millions of workers at Amazon and other major companies who are fed up with being overworked, underpaid, and undervalued are organizing their unions today in record numbers. We can no longer tolerate a broken system that allows corporations to corruptly drag out negotiations and shirk their legal obligations to bargain fair first union contracts. The FLCA has a real shot to right generations of wrongs and level the playing field for workers. The FLCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Establishing a reasonable timeline for all parties to negotiate in good faith, the legislation provides a path to mediation if no agreement is reached within 90 days and a referral to arbitration to ensure first contracts can be fairly resolved.
The Senate version of the bill, introduced last year by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), continues to gain strong bipartisan support.
“The Teamsters Union is grateful to all members of the U.S. House who had the courage to stand with workers, to put aside partisan politics, and to advance this legislation,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. “Right now, hardworking Americans are forced to wait 458 days on average for their employers to stop playing games, get to the table, and negotiate first union contracts. FIRST STUDENT TEAMSTERS RATIFY NATIONAL MASTER AGREEMENT
Teamsters at First Student have ratified a five-year contract, securing stronger protections, improved benefits, and safer working conditions impacting over 22,000 school bus workers across the country. The agreement was secured following a credible strike threat across 96 locals that would have impacted school bus routes nationwide.
“First Student Teamsters refused to settle for the status quo and fought for an agreement that delivers real improvements,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “Our members were ready to act and hold this company accountable if they failed to deliver the deal workers more than deserved. This contract strengthens job protections, improves retirement security, and will continue to raise the bar for school bus workers everywhere.”
The new agreement includes improvements such as increased access to health care benefits, new minimum standards for retirement contributions that will provide pension contributions for the first time to more than 10,000 workers, and expanded leave protections. It also creates a standalone article governing video and audio technology on buses, including protections against misuse of data and requirements for future national negotiations over changes to camera systems.
The First Student National Master Agreement impacts over 17,000 Teamsters and 5,000 additional school bus workers nationwide. As First Student Teamsters practice picketed at bus yards across the country, the Teamsters First Student National Negotiating Committee reached a tentative agreement just hours before the contract expired on March 31.

Joined by John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727, the more than 100 members of Local 727 were forced to launch a ULP strike on Monday, May 4. After two days on the picket line, they emerged victorious and ratified a strong Teamsters contract.

Stiede, and International Vice President At-Large Juan Campos, O’Brien highlighted recent achievements across Illinois and northwest Indiana and discussed upcoming priorities for the union.
