The level of virtue-signalling and gaslighting directed at the people of
#Tigray and
#Eritrea by Abiy in yesterdays so-called interview was off the charts.
The only question I keep asking myself after watching Abiy’s interview on his megaphone media outlets is: Who exactly is the target audience for this cheap, superficial and utterly fake display of concern for people he is either brutalising or threatening to invade?
By putting quotation marks around
#Eritrean independence, Abiy essentially signalling that he does not recognise
#Eritrea as an independent country. He then tried to convince
#Eritreans that they were better off under the Dergue’s occupation than they are today. This begs the question: who is he trying to convince? He must have an extraordinarily low opinion of the Eritrean people to imagine they would buy such nonsense.
He also insulted and blamed the TPLF for everything that has happened in
#Tigray, while, in the same breath, pleading with young Tigrayans to abandon the TPLF and join the PP, promising that he is ready to bake one of his famous specialty of corridor project on the streets of
#Mekele. He even accused the TPLF of claiming to fill the shoes of Emperor Yohans IV, but are currently working with Egypt who killed the emperor and he also accused them for dividing Tigray along sub-regional lines, essentially favouring people from Adwa and alienating others. The contempt he has on the people of Tigray is unbelievable.
Here, it is worth recalling the statement made by the Oromo intellectuals a few days ago: “The PP regime has repeatedly converted legitimate political grievances into horizontal conflicts between communities, deepening mistrust and social tensions into enduring ethnic antagonisms. The strategy shifted attention away from the central crisis of governance and made collective political solutions more difficult to achieve.”
