Components of the Sulfuric Acid Plant’s stainless-steel converter have arrived at site. The converter is where sulfur dioxide is passed through a catalyst bed into sulfur trioxide, which is the basis for sulfuric acid, one of the key inputs in processing lithium at Thacker Pass. By producing sulfuric acid on-site at Thacker Pass, we reduce the community's exposure to transportation activity. Transporting sulfur to site instead of sulfuric acid reduces on-road risks because sulfur is a more benign materials and truck traffic is reduced by up to 66% because the ratio of sulfur to sulfuric acid is 1:3.
