A WOLVERINE’S FIELD GUIDE: XIV — EBON JAGUAR (CAULDRON‑BORN) The Clans call it the Ebon Jaguar. Most warriors call it efficient. I call it a mistake. Sixty‑five tons of width, aggression, and stubborn design philosophy. A machine that tries too hard to be intimidating. A machine that insists on being stocky. A machine that feels like it was built by someone who wanted to prove a point and forgot to make it a good one. Some ’Mechs earn respect. Some earn fear. The Ebon Jaguar earns avoidance. I have never liked this machine. Not once. Not in any configuration. Not in any variant. Not on any battlefield. It is too wide — a silhouette that begs to be hit. Too aggressive — a posture that pretends it’s faster than it is. Too stocky — a frame that feels like it’s fighting itself. And the weapons layout? A collection of ideas that never learned how to cooperate. Even on the tabletop, it irritates me. It’s the kind of ’Mech that looks dangerous until you actually have to use it. Or worse — until you have to fight beside someone who thinks it’s clever. I avoid them at all costs. Them and Chargers. Terrible machines, both of them. But even I have to admit one thing: The Ebon Jaguar is dangerous. Not elegant. Not refined. Not admirable. Just dangerous. It hits hard enough to matter. It moves fast enough to be a problem. It carries enough firepower to ruin your day if you underestimate it. And in the hands of a pilot who actually likes the thing, it becomes something I don’t enjoy acknowledging: Effective. I’ve fought them. I’ve beaten them. I’ve watched them tear through warriors who didn’t respect their brutality. And once — during a skirmish that should have been simple — an Ebon Jaguar forced me to rethink my approach. But that story belongs to the crater it left behind. The Ebon Jaguar does not simply fight. It intrudes. And intrusion is a sin I don’t forgive easily. FIELD NOTE XIV Every warrior has a machine they despise — even if they respect its danger. This one is mine. What’s yours? Clan or Inner Sphere — name the ’Mech you avoid at all costs.
