A fascinating story from 🇪🇪🇪🇺 Estonia.
December 2023, Tallinn.
Estonia's Interior Minister wakes up to find his car windows smashed.
Nothing was stolen, and every other car on the street was untouched. It wasn't vandalism. It was a message.
Estonian and European services determined the operation had been outsourced through layers of intermediaries, designed to keep Moscow’s fingerprints off it.
Then, a few weeks later, something happened in Moscow.
According to journalist
@michaeldweiss, the GRU officer who had authorised the operation walked out of his home to his car.
Its windows had been smashed.
The message was simple: We know.
This is the logic Europe needs to understand. Russia does not have a monopoly on force. Nor on intelligence.
In Europe, we know who runs the networks: the companies, the intermediaries, the vessels, the accounts, the logistics chains.
We can name the people behind them.
So when Moscow, or anybody else, sabotages a railway, torches a warehouse, targets a power plant, or intimidates a defence company, it must know in advance that something will happen in their country.
It will be proportionate, targeted, and aimed at the people and structures responsible.
Not revenge, but true deterrence.
The goal is to change the calculation in Moscow: every operation against Europe carries a price.
Eventually, that price becomes too high.
