GANG-RAPE PAIR JAILED FOR 13 YEARS OVER HUDDERSFIELD SUBWAY ATTACK Two men have been jailed for 13 years each for their roles in the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in a Huddersfield subway. The victim was attacked on 14 July last year in the pedestrian underpass beneath the A62 Castlegate, between New North Road Baptist Church and the former Technical College building. She was assaulted by a group of men who were forensically linked to the scene and arrested within days. Abdul Latif Salih, 35, of Trinity Street in Huddersfield town centre, and Bahaldin Doud, 21, of Village Terrace in Burley, Leeds, were sentenced on Monday at Leeds Crown Court. Salih was convicted of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, rape and attempted rape. Doud was found guilty of two counts of attempted rape. Both men received 13-year prison terms and will be placed on the sex offenders register. A third defendant, Saddam Muhamadaim, 18, of Blacker Road in Birkby, is awaiting sentence. He was convicted of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape in relation to the same incident. Sentencing for Muhamadaim was adjourned while the court investigates his true age, which could affect the length of his sentence. The court previously heard that he arrived in the UK from Sudan and gave his date of birth as January 1993 on an asylum registration form, but later told police it was March 2001. 💥FOUR MEN JAILED FOR 51 YEARS OVER SYSTEMATIC ABUSE OF LEEDS GIRL, 13 Four men who groomed, exploited and repeatedly abused a vulnerable 13‑year‑old girl in Leeds have been jailed for a combined total of 51 years. Tariq Islam, Nasir Sultan, Amir Zaman and Zafar Iqbal were among ten defendants convicted at Leeds Crown Court of serious sexual offences committed against the child in the Beeston area. The court heard the girl was targeted, manipulated and, at times, forced into sexual acts by men who were fully aware she was under age. Jurors were told the victim was given cigarettes and alcohol, contacted on Facebook with demands for sex, and picked up in the street before being ordered into cars. The abuse continued over several weeks. Sentencing the men, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said the girl had been “systematically abused” by offenders who shared their experiences with each other, fuelling further offending. He said none of the defendants had shown a shred of remorse. “Their only concern is that they have been caught and brought to justice,” he told the court. Prosecutor Michelle Colbourne QC said the child had been “corrupted sexually and exploited in various ways by each of these men”, stressing that the law protects children regardless of how “precocious or willing” they may appear. Amir Zaman, 25, of Sefton Terrace, Beeston, was jailed for 11 years for four counts of sexual activity with a child. The court heard he was the first to abuse the girl, convincing her she was his girlfriend despite being nine years older, married and a father of four. He took her to a graveyard where sexual contact occurred. Zaman absconded before trial and remains at large, with the court told he may have fled the country. Zafar Iqbal, 41, of Latchmere Drive, Horsforth, received 15 years for attempted rape and two counts of sexual activity with a child. He gained the girl’s trust by supplying cigarettes, Jack Daniels and cannabis before abusing her. Tariq Islam, 31, of Cross Quarry Street, Woodhouse, was jailed for 13 years for two counts of rape. On one occasion he locked the girl in his car and forced her to have sex, threatening violence if she resisted. Nasir Sultan, 24, of Beeston Road, Beeston, was jailed for two counts of rape, one of which took place in Beeston Cemetery. After the assault he contacted the girl on Facebook, telling her to keep quiet. Judge Marson said the psychological harm inflicted on the victim was likely to be lifelong.
