Our little William (Iron Will) joined us a year ago. Sure - he has Down Syndrome, lives in a world that prefers he’d never been born, and won’t have anyone rioting or quelling free speech on his behalf, but his love is authentic and his worth beyond measure.

Team Iron Will may be a small nonprofit, but we're accomplishing big things!
How?
By keeping our nose to the grindstone and focusing on one thing: making life better for people with Down syndrome.
Period.
We're not flashy. We don't have a big staff. We don't rely on government grants.
And we never compromise on defending the dignity of people with Down syndrome at every stage of life.
What we DO is get help to the people who need it, when they need it:
- Adaptive equipment
- Therapy scholarships
- Educational resources and support
- Medical advocacy and expert input
- And our new Possibility Grants (more on those soon!)
How do I know it's working?
Three months ago, we printed these postcards with our impact numbers.
They're already out of date.
We've been blessed to accomplish so much more in a short time, and I have to reprint them.
We're on a mission to change the narrative around Down syndrome by supporting families AND engaging and encouraging the people who care about them.
Which is ALL OF YOU.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. It's also Respect Life Month. For us, the two are inseparable.
So in October, we're kicking off our year-end fundraising campaign. And it's a make-or-break one for us.
To stay on pace and SCALE Team Iron Will's impact, we need:
- Donations, big and small, one-time and recurring
- Introductions to donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities
- Your help spreading the word to a world that needs to hear it
- Your prayers for our mission, in accordance with God's plan
I'm praying for courage - the ability to act in the face of fear and adversity - and drawing comfort from a God who loves and saves.
Oh, AND… I have a pretty awesome boss who drops in regularly to make sure we're honoring his audacious, brave little spirit. 😉

Iron Will adores his brothers and loves wiffle ball. It’s a gift they gave him - by practicing with him, playing with him and encouraging him.
AND including him.
The big tourney is happening in our backyard. It’s intense. But all these young men, focused on the competition, paused to give the wee little man a turn at the plate.
And I’m pretty sure they all got as much out of the AB as Iron Will did.
Darn good stuff.

Perfect.
There was maybe 30 minutes of rain coming down at a right angle.
And easily 60mph winds.
That wreaked havoc.
Including on the roofing, the pool, and the kid’s playhouse.
NGL - no sirens. Came thru fast.
So we are thanking the Good Lord everyone was safe and secure!

I’d just finished pumping everyone up with the cursory, “No! We got this! We’re gonna take it bite by bite, work thru the night and get it finished before daylight! Hoooaaahhh!”
Headed out to the field with more supplies and one of the sons got a solid pic of me repping Team Iron Will AND our motto (inspired by Iron Will’s tenacious little spirit):
Relentless. Forward. Progress.
I didn’t plan my wardrobe for that moment, so the timing couldn’t have been better, but then I realized… the timing can never be better.
Every single darn day of persevering in the life that God has gifted us is an exercise in Relentless. Forward. Progress.
For all of us.
In travails and tribulations big or small.
The only other option is quitting. And that ain’t an option. It’s just surrender.
I probably need to wear my TIW “gear with a goal” always. As a reminder.
BTW, We got ‘er done. 😉

Oh, and the Portajon they rented to save our plumbing. I didn’t know they’d rented it so when we were checking the premises and found it, I asked one of the boys how far they thought it had flown, and would he check it for occupancy… 😮😂
Best thing about this - in addition to everyone being ok - was the opportunity to be of service to my sons by helping them rebuild the wall and the field. Quality time spent with my “reason for being.”
A man can’t help but be grateful.

Our 2nd Annual Team Iron Will Family Fest and Wiffle Ball Tournament was a huge success. We had 24 teams play and over 350 people come out — it was a beautiful day for the Down syndrome community!
This event was so important because at Team Iron Will we believe in action. We serve real families who need real help fast. No prolonged process or overwhelming paperwork — because no child should have to wait to get the help they need today. The money raised at the Family Fest goes to providing real help to real families when they need it: week-long therapy intensives, therapy scholarships, "Possibility Grants," and getting adaptive equipment into the hands of families and little ones across the country who need a little extra help at home.
So thank you — to everyone who came out to support us and enjoy the day. To everyone who sent prizes for our raffle, the generous persons who bid repeatedly on raffle items, the companies who donated food and supplies to make the day possible, the volunteers who worked tirelessly before, during and after the event, and to those both near and far who champion our efforts and make everything we do possible.
