WOW. I spent 5 years as Chief of Staff to a US Senator who Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Post perennially rated one of the "meanest" members on Capitol Hill.
Not ONCE did he stoop to the disgraceful, hateful, unhinged behavior the @NYT just chronicled from Mary Peltola.

After her husband died, Mary Peltola asked her staff to feed her chameleon in Alaska while she was in DC. A few years later, a staffer complains about being asked to do that to the NYT, trying to squeeze it into some pattern of “bad boss” behavior.
People get mad at me when I’m critical of young staffers — who are adults! — when they behave like this. But this kind of petulance really has no place in decent society. Her husband died, just feed the frickin lizard and deal with it.

This may be felony criminal theft and conversion of government property for political campaign purposes. 18 U.S.C. § 1641. It is a Hatch Act violation for any government employees who worked on it or used government resources to make it. It is blatantly unethical under numerous federal ethics provisions proscribing the use of government resources for political campaigns.
The White House is currently airing this video as an ad during commercial breaks on Fox News.
It looks and sounds like a political spot and includes a disclaimer stating that it is paid for by the U.S. government.
The soundtrack: as images of Trump flash across the screen, singer @iamjmsn can be heard repeating, “Love me, love me,” over and over.
The video combines Trump’s anti-communist message with rapid cuts of Trump, American flags, and military aircraft, alongside claims about tax cuts, manufacturing, and policing.
It ends with the UFC’s Dana White saying:
“He is the toughest, most resilient person that I’ve ever met, and nothing was going to stop him from fighting so hard for the country he loves.”

Many of the anecdotes these staffers leaked were from soon after Peltola’s husband died. Seems pretty understandable that she would be in a bad place. I cannot understand working in politics & actually caring about the country and then leaking this shit right before an election.
