Thornton Fire responded to a head-on collision at 100th Avenue and Riverdale Road with assistance from North Metro Fire Rescue District, South Adams County Fire Department, and Adams County Fire Rescue. Four patients were injured in the crash, with one requiring extrication. Thornton Fire and Adams County Fire Rescue each administered whole blood to critically injured patients before they were transported for further medical care.

Crews responded to a vegetation fire at Niver Creek open space along the interstate between 88th Ave. and Thornton Parkway and is now contained. However, smoke may still be visible. There is no threat to any structures. The fire burned approximately 2 acres. Assistance was received from Adams County Fire, North Metro Fire, and Westminster Fire Departments. Fire is under investigation.

Thornton crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 112th and Madison Street. Two parties were transported to a local hospital and all others safely evacuated. Due to roof collapse concerns, the fire operation went defensive. @adamscountyfire, @SACFD200, and @NMFirePIO assisted with the fire.

At approximately 3:09 pm this afternoon, crews were dispatched to a fire on eastbound E470. Upon arrival crews found the fire to be approximately 50’x100’ and quickly moving west with the wind. Thornton units: E75, E76, BT76 and North Metro Fire: units E66, BT66 assisted with the fire. The fire was caused by a malfunctioning vehicle.

This evening we worked a house fire near 144th Ave and Huron St. Crews found a working fire showing from the roof. Fire now out. Residents had safely evacuated on their own. Fire is believed to be caused by lightning strike to the house.

This afternoon crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the area of 125th and Ash St. Upon arrival, Eng73 found the exterior of the garage on fire and quickly extinguished it with some heat damage to the neighboring home. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

NEWS RELEASE: Thornton Fire Department Launches Whole Blood Program Media Briefing Event: Mon., June 29 at 8 a.m., Fire Station 1, 2300 Thornton Parkway THORNTON, CO…The Thornton Fire Department is proud to announce the launch of its new Whole Blood Program, becoming one of the first agencies in the north metro area to carry and administer whole blood in the field as part of emergency medical response efforts. Through a collaboration with HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge, firefighters and paramedics will now be able to provide whole blood transfusions to critically injured patients before they arrive at the hospital. This advanced level of prehospital care is designed to improve survival rates for patients experiencing severe blood loss caused by traumatic injuries, vehicle crashes, shootings, and other life-threatening emergencies. “Every minute matters during a major trauma event,” said EMS Assistant Chief Gonzales. “By carrying whole blood on our emergency apparatus, our crews can begin life-saving treatment immediately, giving patients the best possible chance of survival before reaching definitive care.” Whole blood contains red blood cells, plasma, and platelets in a single product, making it one of the most effective treatments for hemorrhagic shock. Traditionally, blood transfusions have only been available after arrival at a hospital. With this program, the Thornton Fire Department can now bring that care directly to the patient. The program was made possible through collaboration with HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge, whose support and medical oversight help ensure the safe storage, handling, and replacement of blood products. “This collaboration represents our shared commitment to advancing patient care in our community,” said Ryan Thornton, President and CEO of HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge. “When patients are experiencing the most severe emergencies, providing whole blood before they arrive at the hospital can make a critical difference in their outcomes. Because whole blood more closely mimics the body’s natural response to blood loss, this program gives first responders another important tool to help care for patients when every minute matters.” Startup costs for the program primarily included specialized equipment, supplies, and training. Because Thornton firefighters and paramedics already participate in regular advanced medical training, the program was integrated into existing continuing education efforts. The Thornton Fire Department responds to nearly 18,000 calls annually and continues to invest in progressive emergency medical services that enhance patient care and improve outcomes for the community. Members of the media are invited to attend a special briefing and program overview, where representatives from the Thornton Fire Department and HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge will discuss the new Whole Blood Program, demonstrate equipment, and answer questions about how this life-saving initiative will benefit the community.

Thornton, North Metro, and Adams County Fire crews are currently on scene in the area of 152nd Avenue and Grant Street for a hazardous materials incident. Crews are actively monitoring the situation and are awaiting the arrival of a clean-up company. While there is a large emergency response presence in the area, the chemical involved is not explosive or flammable and there are no life safety hazards or concerns. The response is precautionary to ensure the safety of the community and environment. Please avoid the area if possible and use caution around emergency personnel and equipment.
