A major milestone for the new Station 68 in western Broomfield!
Today, a structural beam signed by North Metro firefighters, staff, board members and project partners was lifted into its permanent place in the bay at Station 68—right above where crews will operate every day.
As construction moves into the structural steel phase, we’re one step closer to a Spring 2027 opening.

Today, Fire Chief Mark Daugherty said it best, "Twenty-five years later, I think this question is worth asking: What do we carry forward from here?
We carry forward the expectation that when people need help, someone will answer. We carry forward the belief that service to others still matters. We carry forward the importance of competence, courage, compassion, and trust. And we carry forward the understanding that communities are strongest when people are willing to look beyond themselves.
Today, I do not think our responsibility is simply to remember what happened twenty-five years ago. Our responsibility is to decide what part of it we will carry with us tomorrow."
Whether you joined us for the stair climb in Denver or the ceremonies in Broomfield and Northglenn, we are grateful for everyone who stood beside us and renewed the vow to never forget.

Tomorrow, North Metro Fire, Broomfield Police and the City and County of Broomfield will hold the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at 9 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial in Broomfield Community Park.
The public is invited to join us as we honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and reflect on the courage, service and unity that followed.
Those unable to attend are encouraged to visit the memorial throughout the day to pause, reflect and remember.

Burning trash is prohibited under Level 1 Fire Restrictions. Today’s fire, which started from a barrel of burning trash, is an important reminder of why restrictions are still in place.
At approximately 1 p.m., North Metro Fire responded to a vegetation fire near County Road 11 and County Road 6 in Broomfield. Crews arrived to find approximately a quarter-acre of dry grass and debris threatening to burn two structures.
Firefighters quickly contained the fire before it could spread farther, then remained on scene to extinguish hot spots, embers and smoldering debris.
One person was evaluated on scene and was not transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental in nature.
When outdoor burning is permitted, burn barrels and other allowed fires should be continuously monitored, with an adequate water supply immediately available to extinguish the fire and suppress any accidental spread. Never leave a fire unattended, even if it appears to be contained or nearly extinguished.

Today at approximately 10:30 a.m., North Metro Fire responded to an incident at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport involving a single-engine aircraft that left the runway.
Upon arrival, crews found no smoke or flames. Two people were on board and exited the aircraft without assistance. One patient was transported to a local hospital.

Sometimes our smallest patients make the biggest impression. ❤️
On Aug. 19, North Metro Fire crews responded to a home where a baby was ready to make an entrance—and wasn't waiting for a trip to the hospital.
Our firefighters helped deliver the baby at home before transporting both baby and parent to the hospital for care.
The next day, members of the crew stopped by the hospital for a reunion and brought a little something to officially welcome their newest patient: a North Metro Fire onesie.
While delivering a baby may be a memorable call, it's not as rare as you might think for our crews:

👶 We've averaged 11 childbirths per year since 2020
👶 So far in 2026, we've already assisted with 7 childbirths
Our firefighters and paramedics train for emergencies across every stage of life—including those very first moments.

Did you know that oily rags can spontaneously ignite if they aren't stored or disposed of properly? A fire in Broomfield early this morning shows just how dangerous they can be.
At approximately 2 a.m. this morning (Aug. 20), North Metro Fire responded to a structure fire on 126th Avenue in Broomfield.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the attached garage of a two-story home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, containing it to the garage with no extension into the rest of the home. No injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by the spontaneous ignition of oil-contaminated rags.
Oil-soaked rags can generate heat as the oil oxidizes. When rags are piled, folded or placed in a closed or combustible container, that heat can become trapped and build until the rags ignite—even without a spark or open flame.
To prevent a fire:
- Never pile, bunch or fold oil-contaminated rags
- Spread them flat in a single layer on a noncombustible surface in a well-ventilated area to fully dry
- Keep them away from buildings, combustible materials and ignition sources while drying
- Once completely dry and hardened, follow local waste-disposal guidance for safe disposal

Level 1 Fire Restrictions remain in place. Please do not burn weeds or trash.
At approximately 9:22 a.m. this morning, North Metro Fire responded to a structure fire at Beautiful Savior Church near the intersection of 120th Ave. and Main St. in Broomfield.
Upon arrival, crews worked to extinguish the fire that started in decorative vegetation and extended to the building.
The fire was determined to be accidental and was caused by the misuse of a blowtorch while burning weeds. No injuries were reported. The building sustained smoke, fire, and water damage.

Here’s another reminder to slow down, stay alert, and drive safely—especially through busy intersections.
Three people were transported to area hospitals following a three-vehicle rollover crash Thurs., July 30 at the intersection of 136th Ave. and Zuni St.
After the patients were cared for, crews worked with law enforcement and a tow company to clear the roadway and reopen the intersection.

This morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., Engine 61 responded to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Midway Boulevard and Main Street in Broomfield.
The crash temporarily closed portions of the intersection while crews worked to ensure the scene was safe. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
As a reminder, every trip behind the wheel is safer when we:
• Slow down and obey posted speed limits
• Eliminate distractions and keep our eyes on the road
• Leave plenty of following distance
• Stay alert at intersections, where many crashes occur
A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent a collision and keep everyone on the road safe.

Yesterday morning, four members of our wildland team departed in our Type 3 engine for Hines, OR, where they have been assigned to the Emigrant Creek Ranger District in the Malheur National Forest as an initial attack engine.
The area has experienced multiple new wildfire starts, rapid fire growth, and is forecast to face extreme fire weather conditions in the coming days. Our crew is helping support the region, where many local firefighting resources are currently committed to multiple large wildfires.
The crew arrived at their assignment this afternoon.
Please join us in wishing them a safe and successful deployment as they help protect communities, natural resources, and the firefighters working alongside them.

Three members of North Metro Fire’s wildland team deployed this morning to pre-position for initial attack in Pike National Forest outside of Colorado Springs, CO.
The crew will take a Type VI engine to help with the ongoing fires in the area.
When they arrive, they will be assigned to a strategic location based on things like weather forecasts, lightning potential, dry fuels, or elevated fire danger.
Their goal will be to shorten response times and add manpower to keep new fire starts from spreading.

As we head into the holiday weekend, last night’s structure fire is an important reminder to leave the fireworks to the professionals.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 2, North Metro Fire responded to a garage fire on Monaco Street in unincorporated Adams County. The fire was caused by fireworks that were not fully extinguished before being placed in a garbage can.
Thankfully, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the garage and prevent it from spreading to the home.
No injuries were reported, and one cat was safely rescued from the residence.
As you celebrate this weekend, please remember:
🚫 Fireworks are prohibited within the district under the current fire restrictions.
🪣 If you are in an area where consumer fireworks are legal, completely soak all used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight before disposing of them.
🌿 Never place used fireworks in a trash can while they are still hot, and keep fireworks away from dry grass, mulch, garages, and other combustible materials.
🎆 The safest way to celebrate is by attending a professional fireworks display.

Our brush engine and crew have safely arrived in the Tahoe National Forest and was assigned to the Sierraville area for their first two working days.
The crew is settling into camp and preparing for initial attack readiness, standing ready to support local forest resources and respond to new wildfire starts as needed.
These deployments not only provide critical assistance to communities facing wildfire threats, but also allow our firefighters to gain valuable experience working alongside partner agencies in complex wildland environments.

Today, our Type III Brush Engine deployed with a crew of four firefighters to support wildfire suppression efforts in Northern California. Their specific assignment will be determined upon arrival, and we’ll share updates as they become available.
Deployments like this provide critical support to communities facing wildfire threats while also strengthening our capabilities here at home. By serving on large-scale incidents, our firefighters gain valuable experience in incident management, aviation operations, interagency coordination, fire behavior, and complex emergency response. The knowledge and skills they bring back help enhance our preparedness and service to our community.
Thank you to our crew for answering the call. We wish them a safe deployment and look forward to welcoming them home.

Hook & Ladder Academy is in full swing this week for teens from across the North Area.
20 academy participants are spending the week immersed in the fire service and gaining hands-on experience in:
• Fire behavior
• Search and rescue
• Truck operations
• Hose management
• Auto extrication
• EMS response
• Technical rescue
• Firefighter fitness
• Wildland firefighting tactics
Led by seasoned firefighters, this unique program gives local youth ages 15–18 an inside look at the fire service and what it takes to serve our communities.
