I am delighted to announce that the US Government, through the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (@DFCgov ), has approved a landmark loan to finance DTEK's battery storage project in Ukraine – making it the agency’s largest loan to the country’s energy sector.
DTEK is sincerely grateful to the US Government, DFC, its CEO Ben Black , Head of Investments Connor Coleman and the entire team at DFC. We look forward to deepening the partnership together for the benefit of both our countries.
More importantly, this decision sends a wider signal: that the United States has confidence in Ukraine’s energy future, and that international investors can do business in Ukraine when strong projects are matched with credible partners.
The DFC Board’s decision has an immediate practical benefit: freeing up capital that DTEK can now invest in other projects that will strengthen Ukraine’s long-term energy security.
Over the past few days in Kyiv, I have briefed journalists and engaged with the diplomatic community on the readiness of Ukraine’s energy system to face a fifth winter since russia’s full-scale invasion.
My appreciation also to Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration @VVChentsov ; Ukrainian Minister of Economy Oleksandr Kravchenko; Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine @DmytroNatalukha
My thanks to Ukrainian and international media; EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova @kmathernova , U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Paul R. Houston and British Ambassador to Ukraine Sir Neil Crompton.
3. Despite the threat, Ukraine is proving that it is possible to build a more resilient energy system. I have no doubt that Ukraine will emerge from this war with one of the most modern energy systems in Europe.
The substation you visited was rebuilt with American help. Now our investments in US-battery technology from @fluenceenergy ; our purchase of substations and turbines from @GEVernova and ships filled with US-liquified natural gas are powering that system.
