It's really crazy how strongly wealth inverse correlates with regulatory burden
If you make it easy for people to start and run businesses and don't get in their way too much, everyone gets wealthier
If you make it hard for people to start and run businesses and get in their way constantly, everyone gets poorer
You can see the effect clearly within the EU:
Countries with low regulatory burden like Switzerland and Ireland have much higher incomes than places like Spain or Hungary where its regulatory burden is high

Next year, Russia plans to spend $12 billion on the production of jet-powered drones and loitering munitions alone. Of course, this is not only about Ukraine.
Ukraine’s interception rate for jet-powered “shaheds” is now 55%. In September, the Russians launched more than 2,730 jet-powered “shaheds”, and more than 1,500 were shot down or suppressed. Unfortunately, a significant share still reach their targets. But step by step, we in Ukraine will build up our defenses – to a level no lower than what we already have against regular “shaheds,” more than 90 percent of which get downed.
But this directly concerns our partners as well. Many intelligence services have information that the Russians want to expand their war, their activities, to more countries. Perhaps to other regions. That is why we need to defend ourselves together, preventively. And that is exactly why we are talking with our partners about stronger sanctions.

Back in 2020, BBC called the chip machine maker a “relatively obscure Dutch company” (it was valued at ~$150 billion).
Since then, ASML has given hoodies with the quote to employees (new recruits frequently post the merch on Linkedin).

For a few weeks in early 2022, right after the IPO, Forge skyrocketed from $2B to $9B and my 0.5% was worth >$40m.
By the time the lockup expired 5 months later, the market cap had fallen 97% to $300m.
I mean $1m is better than $0, so I'm grateful for that. But considering the opportunity cost of a below market salary (I drew <$100k base as a COO), the 4 years of equity as employee #1 / an exec, deferred 7 years during which time the S&P doubled was... not the greatest ROI. And this was a case where it worked out!
And yet... I would do it again. Learned so much, made many lifelong friends, built something that will go on my tombstone, and skills / knowledge I gained have enabled me to compound in the years since.
You should certainly consider being an early employee. But don't do it for the money.
