A person can spend decades paying taxes and still be one diagnosis away from losing everything. Meanwhile, corporations receive public money after making reckless decisions and call the rescue an investment. Individual failure is moralized. Corporate failure is subsidized.

When a poor person has no money, society asks what they did wrong. When a rich person has too much money, society asks how to protect it. Poverty is treated as evidence of bad character. Wealth is treated as evidence of good character.

A rich person can buy a politician's time with a donation and it's called lobbying. A poor person can give a city council member $20 and it's called bribery. Access to power is legal at the top. Corruption is criminalized at the bottom.
