Using compound annual growth: ($57.93 ÷ $15.44)^(1/24.5yrs) - 1 ≈ 5.55% For comparison, official government CPI rose only about 86% cumulatively over the same period (averaging roughly 2.5-2.6% a year). At the official rate, this basket would have cost about $28-29 today instead of nearly $58.
