Federal welcome check: $1,225 per person. That’s week-one money. Not a lifetime.
World Relief sat in Kent. That’s why this landed in South King, not on a theory map.

That is your levy + state basic ed + federal Title bits, not LCSNW’s $1,225.

7,854 multilingual, 31%. 135 languages.
After English: Spanish, then Dari.
That is extra teachers, paras, and TBIP/ELL slots, not a welcome basket.
Federal Way and Tukwila ate the same wave.
The 2024 package even carved $1M for districts with homeless asylum kids. That is a rounding error next to payroll.
Fewer English-ready kids in a room means more staff for the same headcount.
That bill does not sunset when the hotel week ends.
Taxpayers keep it every September.

Refugees are a smaller slice (90k lifetime stock, not this year’s planes).
2021 Afghans were the spike into Kent / Federal Way.

Schools are the quiet bill. Kent: 1 in 3 kids in multilingual classes. Dari is a top language. That’s OSPI, not the $1,225 hotel stipend.
